I can't recall if it was discussed here, or on another forum, animals we have killed that had been shot sometime in the past and had survived to be killed by us. I know I have shot at least two that had mostly healed through and through wounds behind the ear. However, this was the first time I have recovered a hog where I found the previously hunter's bullet. Pig_Popper and I were out on Tuesday night and shot a 215 lb boar (1 of 5 that night) and we were doing bullet recovery on it in hopes of finding his 6mm Grendel bullets to see how they did. We recovered one of my bullets and a second bullet just a couple of inches away in undamaged (or healed) muscle tissue of the neck, close to where it joins the shoulder. The bullet consisted of a jacket base and separated lead core. It was obviously not one of our bullets as our bullets were both boat tailed and this one had a flat base. The base was damaged and so measurements were inconclusive as to caliber, but it appears to have been anything from 6.5 to 7mm. See starting @ 4:10 here I know Flintknapper has recovered at least one bullet from a hog he killed, a .22 from a spectacular puss pocket. Have any of y'all found foreign bullets in your hogs as well?

Never have looked for bullets in hogs. Did find a flattened muzzleloader ball in a big buck’s butt once.

Skinned a boar head once that had taken a load of #6 in the face. Pellets just under the skin but had both eyes

The big dip or healed hole in this one's back was caused by an arrow. I had shot this hog in the top of the back months before while bowhunting. I killed it with a rifle months later hog stalking behind the dog. They are tough critters

I've only found my own bullets so far.

I shot this one but did not need to look for a bullet or hole....the evidence of a clean miss or kill head shot was evident at first glance. It smelled as bad as it looked. I have caught or killed hogs that were crippled up or missing part of a hoof or lower leg. Wounds were healed so I could not tell if they had been shot previously, escaped a snare or foot hold trap or crawled out of a trap without a top and gotten hung up. If the old wound was not evident then I am probably not going to find any evidence since most hogs go to one location, the dump on my place.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Good stuff and interesting to read but nope for me. Shoot’em and drag’em off for me. Finding the leftover hardware does show how tough and resilient they are. Thanks for sharing your finds.

Not a pig, but, I was grinding up some deer meat last year when my grinder started making a funny noise. I opened up the grinder to find a 230gr ball .45. It had evidently been in that deer for who knows how long and had healed up.

My buddy shot one with a 30/30 high on the back. We caught it in a trap a couple of weeks later. There was a clean hole through its back but it was still healthy.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Uncle killed a big boar last year that had a broadhead sticking out of its chest still from when another Hunter on the ranch had shot it a couple weeks previously.

A while back I shot a hog that was limping about on three legs. When I examined the hog, it appeared that it had been hit by a small caliber bullet in the upper foreleg, probably shattering it. The wound had healed cleanly and it was amazing how fast the hog could run on three legs. Aside from the very noticeable limp when moving slowly, the hog seemed to have survived the experience without being terribly impaired.

I killed a pig many years ago that had an arrow inside it that went from its brisket to its abdomen that had completely healed up. They are tough creatures for sure.

Shot one a few years ago that had a snare around its snout. Poor thing couldn’t open its mouth to eat or drink and was going to die a slow miserable death.
