Hey Guys

I'm having a hard time with a mock scrape I had setup. First time I used a T-post + wired a sapling to it only to have a buck come in and rip the entire thing apart. Second time, T-Post + More Wire only to have the same buck come in and just shred/break all the limbs so that I only have a stick wired to the T-Post. I feel like it's the same buck doing this as I have him on camera but I'd love to keep that scrape going instead of having it destroyed after a few days each time.

Any other suggestions for putting up mock scrape besides a T-Post? I'm trying to get this out in the corner of a food plot, so there aren't any natural trees or anything to use.

Any help here appreciated!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Cut a 4-6" straight tree down, dig a hole, place said tree in hole, backfill hole

First it sounds like you might be trying to put up a rub tree instead of a mock scrape. For a mock scrape we have put in several tee posts on an angle and wired the tops together and lashed a limb to them extending 4' to 6' horizontally about 4' off of the ground and made the mock scrape under the end of the limb. This gives them a limb to rake their antlers on and to use for a licking branch. Hopefully they will work the mock scrape while you are there. Good luck on getting the buck, it might be a good one.

@Old Rabbit -- yea, that's what I'm doing, I guess I could put it a bit taller. I've had about 4' sections of tree with outward limbs for rubbing. Seems the same buck just keeps thrashing the limbs/the whole thing.

I've only got the Tpost down past the flange, and I'm using bailing wire to hold the section of tree. Anything else you'd recommend here or does that sound right?

Is it possible I just have an aggressive buck?

The reason we had to go with 2 tee posts was it is amazing how strong and determined a buck deer is. If you have help or the use of a tractor with a front end loader you could cut down a decent size tree, use post hole diggers to dig down about 2' to 3' and set the tree in the hole. I know that is a lot of work but it may take something like that for your buck.

Put a camera on it.
Would be interesting to see what's going on there.

I second putting a camera on it. I'm afriad I will be late to the game on putting my scrapes in back the time I get back to the lease.

Thanks, Billy

Hang the scrape from a strong horizontal limb. Use paracord or strong twine lashed onto the end. If he tries to bring it down it will simply swing with his pushes rather than being ripped out of the ground.
