We have a houshold account with a debit card. That account never had alot of funds. Wife transfer enough to cover purchases as needed. We use it often.
Wife and I separate credit cards and checking. We each use our credit cards like debit cards. I transfer funds from checking to credit account once a month. She transfers twice a month. Never carry a balance. Never had a problem.
For cash, debit card at BANK. Never ever any place else, EVER! This We also have a separate debit card we use for online purchases only and deposit money as needed. We use prepaid cards for the same thing

I’m not scared of my shadow or technology and my bank puts the money back in automatically while they investigate the fraud (which has never happened to me) so I just live my life with my debit card. Hope I survive.

We have both. We don't normally use the debit card for purchases. Depending on the time of year, we may go months without ever hitting the ATM at the bank. Other times, we are at it every week. School sports and cash only events are what really drives our ATM usage.

A couple years ago, I switched everything to credit cards. I now only use the debit card about once a month or less for cash. I used to use it everywhere.

Hope I survive. This. My wife’s debit card got hacked or whatever you want to call it for about $1,000 and the bank put the money back in immediately and sent her a new card. No need to transfer money every time we buy something.

debit card for day to day purchases and credit card for auto pays, online purchases, etc.

If you travel you can Charles Schwab debit card and they will refund ATM fees anywhere in the world

Wells Fargo told me that our debit cards are protected against fraud just like our credit card. Same process to deny fraudulent charges. The issue is not that your bank won’t return the funds, it’s that you are out those funds (cash) while they fix the issue, which takes days. If your credit card number gets stolen, you’re not out any cash and they can get you a new credit card in a day or two, or you use your debit card in the meantime, or you can use a different credit card if you have one. The process is the same, but your bank account can be wiped out if your debit card is stolen and you might be screwed for a few days. We use debit cards at ATMs rarely and only at banks (not convenience stores or on the street). We use credit cards for everything else. Haven't had a problem yet, but Wells Fargo assured me their policy is to credit the money back to my account within minutes of reporting it. Bank of America told me the same thing about 15 years ago. I never had cause to test them either. Marc

I use mine for just about everything. I hardly ever use cash but keep some tucked in my wallet just in case. I had fraud one time... someone bought a bunch of stereo equipment and car parts in California with my account. BOA had the money back in my account at midnight and it was as simple as me calling and saying I didn’t make those transactions. Then they shipped me a new card.
