I had just turned 7 when I shot my first one. I'll never forget it either. Freezing to death sitting in a ground blind we made by piling up logs and using a 16g single barrel shotgun with buckshot.
My son was just past his 6th birthday when he killed his first doe followed up the next weekend by a big spike and then the very next weekend a nice Val Verde County 8 point that we had mounted for him. He killed all with a H&R break open single shot .223 I bought him for his birthday. My daughter was 9 when she killed her first (and only) one, a big doe with a perfect shot from my 243.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Shot my first 4 point whitetail in 1980 at the age of 12. It was a long tracking job but finally found that buck. I ended up hitting it a little further back with a .222 and a 50 grain bullet.

My dad wasn't much of a deer hunter he went a lot and never got one. I finally noticed half of the time he didn't take a gun. Think he was after those two legged deer so at 17 we started hunting on our own. That is when I shot my first deer.

I was about a month shy of my 5th birthday ... I've told the story here before, so will just touch on it, model 92 in 218 Bee, day before season, over the fence, from my dad's '57 pickup truck ... barrel wasn't quite outside the window and about deafened the 3 of us in the cab. Dad watched the big doe bounce off and said "you missed" ... I said nope, laying there beside that cactus, sure enough, a fawn. Dad kidded me the rest of his life about shooting that deer and knocking the spots off of it when the bullet hit and the milk from it's lips. But it was sure good eating that might dinner with the families and local game wardens.

I think I had just turned 10, in 1977, may have been 11 in '78. I was in 4th grade. In a PITA box blind you had to open the "lid" and climb into. Dad set me up and we had tags for anything so he just told me, "If you see it, shoot it". I'd already been dove hunting a few seasons. I saw a nice fat does coming down a trail on a hill not far away. Shot and she went down. Then I saw the 6-point just standing there about 20 yards behind her on the same trail. Shot again and he went down, too. Dad hollered from his stand about 50 yards behind me, "Did you get one"? I hollered back, "Yessir! I got'em both!". I'm not that mad at them any more, but still enjoy going out.

9 years old. Fork horn mulie in CO. Back then you had to be 14 to hunt deer. Both my father and grandfather thought that was a dumb law. So I took the buck on my grandfather's license. This would be 1972 so the statute of limitations has long run out.

I didn't kill my first deer until I was 30. My stepfather didn't ever deer hunt, but we did a lot of duck, squirrel and rabbit hunting.

I was 11 years old when my grandpa ( a ranch foreman at the time) walked up to me, gave me a rifle and a camo shirt and said load up. I wound up taking a doe that evening with his old Remington .222 and its a memory I will never forget.

It was 1968 near Pearl, TX and I was 9 years old. Used a Savage 340 in 30-30 with open sights that belonged to my uncle. We owned 350 acres and my uncle had 50 right next to it. We ran cows and hunted on both places like it was just one. I really miss those days of hunting with my dad and two uncles. They've all long since passed, but I reckon I'll get to hunt with them again soon enough.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I shot my first deer in 1970 with a borrowed 6.5 Jap WWII surplus rifle. My Pop was in the stand with me. On my next birthday, I received a Marlin 336 30-30. A friend from church gave us a scope/rings to put on it. I shot a few deer with that gun and traded it in on a Remington 700 BDL in 270. I still have my Remington.
God bless John Wayne!

Started going deer hunting when I was 4 or 5, but didn't kill my first deer until I was 13. Big doe shot with my 270 out of the headlights while pulling into the ranch.

I started hunting with my dad at 2 or 3 I always enjoyed going out with him bird or deer hunting. I shot my first deer at 4 years with a Remington 600 in a .222 rem, shot was maybe 20 yards, I can’t remember much more than that other than I was sitting on dads knees when I shot her. I have been hooked every since.

The relative good number of those who killed their first deer as an adult is a good sign that it's not only kids who are getting into the sport.
