Well he's not the one I was going after but I just couldn't pass him up. I decided to sleep in my box blind that's about 100 yards away so that I could sneak in the tree stand in the morning. My tree stand is on a well traveled path that I hand corn before each sit. I got in the stand on Sat morning 45 mins before day break and was covered in buck and does as the sun came up. I watched a 9pt that I think is going to be an absolute stud in another year for about 3 hours. I talked myself in and out of shooting him the entire time. Got out of the stand around noon and went back to base camp for a nap and was back in the tree around 4. Before I was set up I looked down and the 9pt was on the fresh corn I had just put down. Again I had a ton on does and younger bucks with 25 yards for the entire sit. I was just about to take one of the does when the guy in the pic came in hard to the group and chased off all the young bucks and started fighting with the 9pt. The 9pt got his butt kicked in about 10 seconds and this guy was on the ground 20 seconds after that. Double lung at 20 yards. He ran about 30 yards and piled up within view of me. Took a few mins to get my heart rate under control. The funny thing is, I looked through about a months worth of trail cam pics and I don't have a single pic of him.

I didn't measure him but I would think he's around 20" - 21". It was getting late and I was concentrating on caping him to be mounted. Thanks to Huftax for his instructions instructions last week!

Trying out a new processer on my way back to Dallas in Rising Star (Full Draw). They had a few mounts on the wall that looked really good so I decided to give them a shot. They said they would have it ready in about 3 months. I've never had a shoulder mount done but everyone I've ever known to have one done said it took almost a year to get back. Maybe it's because it's so early in the season.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

My guess on him is about 135. The one I was after was a main frame 12 that I think is 140+. (note that I suck at estimating scores) However the 10 I put down is definitely a bigger bodied buck.

Thanks for the Congrats. I'm really excited to put him on the office wall.

You should be excited!!
Great buck for your first with the crossbow!

He looks bigger than 135 and I've always said I'd rather kill a deer that looks bigger than he scores than the other way around!! banana
