In Texas, I'm always looking for snakes and occasionally noticing deer. In the mountains of Idaho, I haven't looked for a snake in years, and am seeing a lot more game! smile

Idaho is the reason I don’t buy synthetic Upper mountain boots. At the trail head none the less.

If you attack a bear with arrows and clubs like the Indians did, you're probably going to get what's coming to you. That's not exactly showing it respect.

Which would win in a fight:
Silverback gorilla or Grizzly?

Statistically speaking deers kill more people in North America than any other animal – around 200 human deaths every year. And how do they do this? With their killer antlers and powerful kicking hooves? No, they are just really bad at crossing roads. So bad that in 2000 it is estimated that around 100,000 were run over in the US alone. They even have an official name for it; a deer-vehicle collision or DVC for short. The primary culprits are white tailed deer, they appear particularly stupid.

Lets see they can grow up to 9 feet tall and weigh 1,500 lbs and can run up to 35 mph oh and they are meat eaters also and have dined on a few people before.
The grizzly bear would be my most feared and respected N. American animal.

This is a famous Hollywood bear named Bart, he is only 8.5" and 1,100 ponds.

Look at the claws and teeth on them.

Pound for pound Wolverines are Bad Mutha Fatrinas. The Indians use to call it the Mountain Devil among other things.

Well for that matter, I've heard it said that ants would rule the world if they were the size of dogs.

Mano i mano, I think the grizzly would win, but gorillas have the intelligence and the opposable thumbs to use weapons if they are available. If you put a baseball bat, sword, or loaded gun in the cage with them, the gorilla would have a pretty good chance.

Grizzly....hands down I believe.
Likely cut that gorilla in two pieces with a couple swipes of the paw.

A rancher up in MT many years ago told me that if a full grown 2klb bull got a running start he could roll a grizzly bear but if they stood toe to toe a full grown grizzly would knock his bull arse flat out!

The Grizzlies bears are a separate subspecies of the Brown bear. Just like there are 17 different sub species of Whitetail deer in N. America, 4 of them in Texas.

As they say, all Grizzlies are Brown bears, not all Brown bears are Grizzly bears.

On a couple of shows I watched they state that the Kodiak bear is actually a Grizzly bear that lives on the island of Kodiak, it is larger because of the tremendous amount of food and fish available.
I have also heard others say it is a separate subspecies of the Brown bear?

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Years ago at a zoo there was a gorilla in a cage next to a leopard. The gorilla was always rattling the bars trying to get at the leopard and finally the doors were open, or whatever- in the same cage. The leopard took the arm off the gorilla in one swipe- so I've been told. I'd bet on the giz.

From my understanding, brown bears are grizzlies and grizzlies in Alaska is a term used to specify which side of the 141 degree meridian they live on. the ABC inland bears also have Polar bear DNA.

But yes bear size is determined by food supply
