'Just learned that an elderly man that I considered a friend, counseled our family numerous times and counseled me during my divorce, died this past summer - stabbed to death by his son with mental illness. The wife/mother was attacked also, but survived.

He took me duck hunting, dove hunting, and fishing at a very old, very private club just south of town. A true gentleman sportsman and a wise and caring friend to me and my family. May God rest his soul and grant His peace to his family.

Requiem

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

-Robert Louis Stevenson

Sorry for your loss. When I hear about men like him I think of the George Jones song "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes".

Sorry for your loss. I experienced losing a mentor recently as well. It leaves a deep void. Thoughts and prayers with you.

Condolences. It is strange how bad things happen to good people.

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure you'll no doubt honor him by passing on all that he taught you to those who will value it as much as you do.

That sad. I'm sorry to hear that, losing a friend, family or someone you look up to is painful.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

The lose of a hunting Friend is of greater consequence then most other losses. Spending hours afield and or in a blind is and emotional and bonding experience. Oh how I miss our conversations and problem solving discussions which most other mortals could never resolve.
