Texas Central has already purchased much of the land it needs for the 240-mile rail line. Now the group 'Texans Against High-Speed Rail' has released public documents showing that Texas Central has used some of that land as collateral for a loan of up to $300 million from Japan Texas High-Speed Railway Cayman LP, which is based in the Cayman Islands. That entity was created by a bank owned by the Japanese government. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/c...lings-of-bullet-train-developer/2445220/

A Leon County commissioner bought land in the proposed route.
So, it's not just folks outside Texas.

Encroachment.. They now have a Walmart where I once quail hunted.

Sounds good unless you own land in their path. i think that is the hold up settling with those that don't want to sell i don't really think they are close to getting right of way

Texas Central already has control of 600 parcels of land needed for its tracks. That's roughly 40% of what is needed for project. Texas Central is still negotiating for the remainder of land while it prepares to line up the rest of the financing required. https://www.wfaa.com/article/news/a...287-decb2e53-5db5-461b-884d-b729f60aeecf

Here is the map. I wonder how much it is going to cost to buy the rest of the land?

If I were in it's path I would be worried too. The people that owned land where there are now reservoirs were probably worried too. We will hear more about the abuse of eminent domain for public need or economic development in a year or two.

How is that lying about who owns the land? Texas Central bought it and then used it for collateral on a loan. That is exactly how most people buy their homes. There is nothing dishonest or unusual about it. I don't have a dog in this fight, and don't care much one way or the other, but there doesn't seem to be anything shady about the purchase of the land.

"Texas Central did not disclose the existence of this offshore beneficiaryto any of the landowners it convinced to sign an option contract. Nor did it disclose its plans to usethe property purchased through the optioncontractsto secure a loan from the Japanese government. TheDeedsof Trust wereexecuted by the debtor and property owner (Texas Central), to a trustee (attorney Keenan Kolendo), who will hold the property in trust for the creditor (Japan Texas High-Speed Railway).Although the Deeds of Trust do not convey actual title to the offshore Japanese entity, the security interest can quickly and easily be converted to fulllegal and possessorytitle without judicial foreclosure ifTexas Central defaults on its loan payments."

Because neither one of those things have happened, or is even being considered, as far as I know.
