This is a very respectable deer by our standards. Not the biggest buck we’ve ever taken, but I think he’s a shooter. I’m not sure I would pass. Question number 1, would you shoot this deer??

Now, I asked that question I order to ask this one. Would you shoot deer number 1 if your neighbor claims to have this deer on his place??

Deer #2 appears to be more mature and I would probably hold out for it

You want to shoot the deer your neighbor says he has on his place?

No, I don't want to go to my neighbor's and shoot this deer. I guess I should have been more clear. In 15 years, I have never seen a deer that is even in the same ball park as deer #2 on our place. My guess is that he is a 150"+ deer. Deer number 1 would be lucky to pass 130".

Got to let them get old to reach their full potential. If you don't have to take a deer wait on the one you want to mature. I shoot does unless I see one I really want.

Love to see the whole picture of your neighbors deer not just the cropped part, and also out of velvet.

I don't think those two deer are as far apart score wise as you think they are, but it's hard not to like a wide, framey buck. To answer your questions though:

1. No, probably not, but I've got no problem passing on shooters (especially early season).
2. I probably hold out either way. Both are very nice deer.

Both are nice. I think #1 may score better. Shoot what makes you happy.

I'd shoot whatever deer I wanted to and not give another minute's thought about it.

To answer the questions;
No, I wouldn't shoot either buck, those are good examples of what I'd want to keep around as long as possible to spread their genes, especially the wider older buck.

Wow, I am surprised by the responses. Deer #2 just looks like a monster to me, maybe because the pics are in velvet. I would be happy with either, but there is something about #2.

I've learned one thing about trail cam pictures. You can't Trust them! I had a deer show up on 2 different cameras and the angle of one made him look nice and the angle of the other made him look small. I sat and watched him in person and he was more on the small side. Velvet just adds to the confusion. 2cents

1. I'd probably shoot if he gave me a good opportunity
2. I'd still probably shoot #1. Number 2 looks wide but not tall. I like tall. Also, I think Velvet is clouding your judgement.

Both mature and #1 looks to be a mid-130s deer to me. I'd be ok shooting either, probably #2 if had my choice in field.

Id shoot number 1 over number 2 if they were both in front of me. That is just preference of course.

Can you elaborate? This is just west of Newcastle. Are you hunting near Graham, seeing bigger deer?

I would be tickled to shoot either buck if they walked out in front of me. Certainly would not pass one in hopes of seeing the other.

This is why I don't share cam PICS with folks near by me. Causes churn and everyone is going to say "Please don't shoot this buck because......"

I wished him luck. I have no reason to ask him not to shoot anything. Knowing him the way I do, if I did ask him not to, he wouldn’t do it. One of the nicest guys I ever met.
