My daughter got drawn for a management hunt at Kerr WMA in November the 23-25. I have been searching the internet for information previous experiences etc. I can't seem to find anyone posts that are newer than 2016 or so. Anyone have any recent experience or knowledge of Kerr. Really have no idea what is in store or what to prepare for. She got drawn for San Angelo last year and while that was nice and the staff was awesome, our assigned blind was a bust. Any tips appreciated.

Kerr is a great beautiful place. I have been there several times. One area i want to say the south east area has aoudads. The bucks are huge. It's heavy managed so the deer are not over populated. You don't see as many deer but the deer are bigger and very healthy. I can't think of the name but there is a church camp next door which is the closest and probably best place to stay. I hunted the either sex hunt back in the fall of 2018. I believe I drew south owl. I seen three bucks, a few pigs, and some turkeys. I ended up shooting a big spike the last morning. The other two bucks were an 8 and 10 point. But they were quite a ways off and did not present much of a shot. They have a combination of tower and ground box blinds. The first afternoon and morning of the second day I hunted one of the tower blinds that was more in the scattered cedars and did not see any deer. The afternoon of the second day I hunted I switched over to one of the ground box blinds overlooking a pasture and seen the two bigger bucks. I went back to the same ground blind the morning of the third day and shot the spike. I think most of the deer came from the southwest compartments when I was there. Once you go through the briefing you draw your compartment and you are then pretty much on your own. You need to sign in and out when you enter/exit the WMA. I would recommend 4x4 as you drive yourself to your compartment/blinds. They do drive you to the gate the first afternoon. I would take a pop-up and drive your compartment the first afternoon and identify where you have blinds that overlook pastures. The deer I saw were running the edge of the the mountain cedars and only showed themselves for brief moments. The do allow you to put out corn. Here is an older survey map but I think it was pretty much the same when I hunted.

The roads can be rough so high clearance 4x4 will be really helpful. You can camp, rent a cabin, or stay in the lodge at MO Ranch next door which is a church camp. It's pretty reasonable, has nice accommodations, and is close. You cannot camp on Kerr.

Put some corn out and sit in one of their blinds and you'll get something or have more than ample opportunity.

I also hunted the fall 2018 there. I stayed in the cabins at mo ranch down the road. I was in south doe pasture. Bring a bale of alfalfa, it is allowed and the deer like it better than the corn and they find in quicker. Should not be any trouble to get at least a doe on this hunt. All the bucks I saw were pretty good hill country 8's and 10's. I hunted mostly from the ground blinds they put out there for you. Bring a cushion to sit on, the blinds provide the bare minimum. Also place alfalfa hay on a big radius around the stand within comfortable shooting distance to cover more ground with attractant. Take pictures, have fun, make memories.

My son was also selected for this hunt. Not much info on it as you point out but did learn about the Mo Ranch and alfalfa for the axis in older posts in various websites, and by the comments in this post I think that should help. Planning to bring corn as well. It should be a great time with the kids!

Awesome hunt, we only saw a buck which fell into the management category of 4 points or less and my son did a good job taking him down the first evening. We didn’t see anything the following two days except a doe eating corn we walked into in our way to stand, she left to never come back. Awesome and friendly staff, great terrain and the best game processing equipment I’ve seen in any TPWD park so far, with electric hoist and a rail system to 2 butchering tables and to the chilled room. All in all a great time with my son. I would hunt there in a heartbeat.
