Gets on my nerves when she chomps on the dove like video below..



Duck not an issue, but dove is. Been doing some yard work she is a good girl, let’s see how she does now in the field...

Yeah, but I thaw out the bird for his drill because a frozen bird is less tempting to chomp, but a soft squishy dove is just irresistible.

This is yesterday afternoon hunting, she did much better, this bird she brought back the live bird holding it gently and perfectly. As soon as I start to praise her, she immediately sees if she can get away with a little chomp, I correct her with pop on the top of the snout with a “hold”. The goes all the way back to force fetch, she knows not to chomp, and the correction.

9 this morning. She still chomping a bit, we gonna keep at the training. Normally I just dove hunt the opener, but I have more interest in dove this year for some reason.

Doesn't look like she is messing them up much. Maybe it is the ones still alive???

I have thought about that. I think it is just the excitement. A live bird, you can make the argument she clinches it tighter (no chomp) or else it will get away. In 2 hunts this weekend, she only chomped one bird a lot, I was looking for a bird not paying attention, mean while she had one in her mouth just sitting there since I'm not looking she knew she could get away with chomping. She did not put holes in it, but she sure did slobber it up good lol.

Rosie has a tendency to do the same thing. Also, not on ducks, just dove. I have noticed it is more when they have some kick left. I was able to get it under control last week, but opening day she destroyed a couple. That's on me tho for not working with her ahead of time. Luckily she's pretty sharp so I was able to get it done in the field.
