We're going to buy a new mattress when we move into the new house. We have an antique queen size bed that was my grandparents and some other family members before that.

Anyway, looking for good queen size mattresses that are good for folks with back pain. Current thoughts are sleep number or tempurpedic.

What says the THF braintrust?

We went the tempurpedic breeze route a few yrs ago and have zero regrets. Regarding the old mattress, I woke up with lower back pain almost every morning. We would buy again.

I went to an extra firm mattress several years ago. I used to wake up in pain everyday and hurt all day from the soft memory foam one I had before. The extra firm does not give you the instant feeling of comfort a soft bed does but my quality of life went up significantly when I got one.

I had back surgery when I was 19 and I'm now 45....I just bought a new mattress as my last one was 22 years old (slept on about 13 years total, because I was living at another residence with it's own mattress)...anyway, I just bought a new mattress in August. I spent over an hour at Sleep Experts...decided on a Stearns and Foster Hurston model. They are made here in Texas. The Hurston is a very firm mattress...I coupled it with the Ease 3.0 adjustable foundation. I also have a mattress topper I got from Kohl's for $88 (The Big One). My lower back and hip has to have support, but my shoulders need a bit more comfort than the extra firm mattress provides, so this solved that. I don't hurt at all anymore when I get up. It did take about 5 days to get used to it.

Stearns and Foster make a great 'traditional' mattress...I'd definitely give them a try.

Total for the queen size mattress, foundation, and deliver was $1801 with delivery and tax included...mattresses are like cars, but with a lot more markup...Negotiate and be willing to walk away. Mattress firm and Sleep Experts are owned by the same company, so play them against each other.

Surprise, surprise, your timing is just right. They are reduced to half price at the mattress store next to Sports Clip.

We sleep on a Select Comfort bed and love it. She can have her side softer and I can have my side firmer

I couldn't change. I've made a little nest for reading and watching TV.

Our first Sleep Number nearly 20 years ago, we would never go back to any other type.

Go to mattress firm and try out several brands and types, also consider the head and foot adjustable beds.

Also they have a big sale on them until Holloween.

We have some $3,000 Serta on our king bed but it won’t fit in our bedroom at the temporary house. Bought a $400 Amazon foam queen size and I sleep better on it.

Man, I’m in that same situation, minus the foam mattress.
