"Of the strength and ferocity of the animal the Indians had given us dreadful accounts. They never attack him except in parties of six or eight persons, and even then are often defeated with the loss of one or more of their party."

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, The Journals of Lewis and Clark (1805)

Yes 100%.
Have seen them when elk hunting in Wyoming and want nothing to do with them.
They are the top of the food chain and will eat you.

I’m way more afraid of water moccasins

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Me too, but I respect the hell out of grizzlies.

Lewis and Clark had never met a polar bear.

I’ve hunted grizz country a few times. I’m aware and respect them but just don’t have same spider senses about them.

Rattle bug bites are still higher in ID, MT and Wy

This is what scares the crap out of me when I'm elk hunting. Mama and junior, up close!!! Second cub hiding in the sage brush.

The grizzly bear is the second most dangerous creature in America, the most dangerous would be the snow snake which is blind and has no mouth

They never met my mother-in-law either. At least bears for the most conform to predictable behaviour. My mother-in-law not so much.

You can beat a snake with a stick, they don't make a stick big enough for a grizzly.

I hunt all over the West

Bears are to be respected but I don’t fear them.

Snakes are from the devil.

Remember, a snake gave Eve the apple, not a bear

Snakes don't have a chance around me if I decide to kill them........Grizzly bear can come out of the brush faster than you could imagine and eat you if they decide to......

I learned very quickly on my trips to Alaska to have a healthy respect for Brown Bears. They are definitely one animal I feel almost completely helpless against.
The worst times were when we were making our way down to rivers through the woods to fish and we could sometimes smell them. We couldn't tell if it was the actual bear we were smelling or scent they had left on trees and tall grass.

Eve picked the forbidden fruit and ate it herself. The snake did not give it to her. The snake never had it. She knew she should not do it. She had been warned, but did it anyway. The snake just talked her into it.

Rationally, you're absolutely right. I understand what you are saying and agree with you 100%. Yet, that has no bearing on which one I am more scared of. To me, the best thing about the years I spent living in Alaska, was no matter what, I knew I wasn't going to run into a snake.
