Crossbow in questions is Wicked Ridge RDX 400 Crossbow

Q: How often do I need to apply wax to the strings and lube on the rail. Is it a routine or is there way to determine when needed.

Q: Can you target shoot with a broadhead on without damaging the broadhead?

Q: Is the quiver mounted to the crossbow the best way to store the arrows? Seems clumsy.

Wax the strings often, if you rub dry fingers back and forth on the string and they do not feel waxy you have gone too long. If using the 10pt rail lube or scorpion venom 30 to 40 shots, if ou shoot it and smell something burning you have gone too long and that is your serving burning along in the path down the rail.

Some broadheads you can and others you might damage and the target will dull any broadhead so be prepered to sharpen the blades or replace them. I have seen some expandable heads bend blades in targets or at least be dulled, moving blades are not the easiest thing to sharpen.

I usually remove the quiver for shooting, one less potential noise producer. I do not use the quiver for long term arrow storage but use an arrow case and store the arrows and bow INSIDE.

I have smelled the string burning when you dont lube rail often enough. I thought it was maybe my imagination but I confirmed it at bow shop today and Kmon also.

Appreciate the answers. I waxed strings and lubed the rail before shooting. I wasn't sure how much lube to use. Thanks for confirming about quiver, I will probably remove mine in the popup and leave it on in the tree blind.

Ive used Scorpion venom for years on my rails. Its good stuff. I finally found something I like better.

This would probably be a lifetime supply.

you can get a second bracket for the quiver from Tenpoint and have it screwed on your stand or tree out of the way and just switch it over. You could also mount it crossways of the bow out where the stirrup mounts with longer bolts instead of the allen screws to lock the stirrup in place but that to me gets in the way of cocking the bow with the quiver on

I think one of you posted on here that they also use Red Hot bolts. I have about a dozen and a half and love them. What are you planning on replacing them with when the Parker Red Hots are no longer available?

I noticed that one of the blades on the bolt I used on that antelope pass thru has one of its larger blades almost looks slightly serrated. Should I replace it? I have replacement blades, but now I'm thinking maybe you shouldn't even re-use a bolt after it has been used on an animal. I don't think it hit much bone. I found it 30 yards further out. The serrated look gives me the impression that it must've nicked a rib or something.

Q: Range finder from 650 - 1000 yards should suffice for crossbow purposes correct?

In the past, I have used myBushnell Scout 1000. It seemed to work fine. I just used my Vortex Ranger 1800 and it worked fine. I suppose it depends on the brand but I would think most will work. Supposedly my Vortex won’t range anything less than 9 yards but at that range, who cares?

I understand that I need to sight in the arrow and broadhead that I plan to hunt with. What is the best type of target to use for this purpose?

I designate a couple of broadheads for practice, and just assume they'll be more or less destroyed in the process.

Jig-A-Loo, spray it on rail and dries in about a minute best lube out there. Should be able to get it online. That's all the people over on Archery Talk use on crossbows. I relube about 50 or so shots.
