Looking at this feeder, does this plate keep corn in the hopper while
Driving rough ranch roads or does it allow some waste?

Also, what size would be preferable, 50# or 100# hopper? I feel 50# is adequate but don’t know what I don’t know....

Is there any reason to go a different direction? Looking for something that could be used on my truck and also my mule.

I believe it is cupped shape..so it may lose a little corn if you hit a rough spot in the round. I prefer a 100# capacity road feeder but I feed multiple blinds twice per day and use a lot of road corn. The only bad is if you are going to remove the feeder and it is not empty. Foreverlast, All Season, etc all make great feeders. I have a deep cupped spinner plate on my homemade road feeder. Some use the Eliminator style spinner plate. They make low profile feeders also so you can open the tailgate without removing the feeder. If I bought a 50# cap feeder then I would want to carry and extra bag or two of corn along with me all the time.

50 is more than adequate. It just doesn't take much to carry along and then put in another bag of corn. The smaller profile can be beneficial. The cupped feeder plate works just fine. It's what I have.

I think youre on the right track. I use the eliminator plate but wouldnt hesitate to try the cup. Like Hud, the 50 and refilling is ok but 100 is nice if corn alot like Stx and hes also right about an occasional pain if you need to take it off.

I’ve had one for a while now. Love it, but can be bulky trying to hook it up or taking it off. I believe Lamco went with the cup spinner because like me the old spinner would sling the corn way out side the area you wanted it in. Me hunting in east texas, the ROW I hunt on is only about 30ft wide so half my corn was “in the woods”. I wanted to have all the corn in the right of way, so I (was working near lamco at the time) went to them and explained my problem and they said here try this and it was the cup/saucer spinner plate. They told me they received numerous recommendations on spinners so they started selling the cup/saucers spinners. It works really well, but it leaves all the corn within a 3ft width. That’s my experience. I’m sure others have different experiences. Now I need a new motor for the feeder. The shaft is bent.

Just reread your post. Wow did I go overboard. And no it’s does not keep corn from spilling out. better than other plates for sure.

My lamco low profile is being delivered today, plan to use it some this weekend. Got a hitch extender to use on the mule for it too. Should be fun to give it a go. happy birthday to me

If the cup spinner doesn’t throw very far then I wouldn’t want it. I like it spread out. Especially out into grass so it takes them longer to pick through it.

Ok got out this weekend and tried my new lamco feeder. It did not lose much corn while driving along regular ranch roads, nothing really rough but not paved either.

The cup spinner worked well to spread corn in about a path as wide as my truck, approx 6-7 feet. I am sure I could use a little finesse and get some different throw distances by toggling off and on. I did see corn going much further in my mirrors as well, so it will throw a decent distance, but majority is in the 6-7 feet path and the corn is not shot like a eliminator plate or something similar (like what I have seen Freerange’s road feeder throw) I don’t think.

Having said all that, I pretty much just turned it on while driving and didn’t think much about toggling on/off or playing with anything, mainly just wanted to see what it did and how it worked. Very easy, steady corn stream if left on, and a decent path of corn. I think a better way to work it would be on/off-on/off toggling while driving and unless I want to just lay a path. I will play with it as the season goes on and we’ll figure out a “best approach” with this thing. So far happy with it though

My homemade cupped feeder throws corn about 15'-20' wide, but it has a half moon sheet metal shield to keep the corn all behind the feeder. I make more than one pass over an area also so that I keep the deer spread out in case I need to shoot.

I have used the 100# version with older spring-loaded spinner plate for over 5 years and love it. It is still low enough that I can lower my tailgate with it on - which is the whole point. To address how cumbersome it is, I installed handles on both ends and this has helped a lot. To make it fully wireless, I installed a 12v feeder battery in a waterproof box hooked up to a $25 12v remote switch (Fimco 7771938) and really like this set up - with a small 2-wire extension, it rides just inside the bed of the truck or can ride inside the feeder compartment itself. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

On a rough road you will lose a little depending on your gap. You may want to consider a eliminator plate.
