I've never loaded for the 25-06. I'd like to ring some steel out to 1000 yards. Anyone have any component suggestions? Pet loads? etc..?

26" barrel, 1:10 Twist

I’m not much help on specifics and the 25-06 will definitely get to 1000 yards, but it will be a challenge with the wind at that distance. It’s like a cartridge that would be a challenge for an experienced shooter. What rifle are you shooting it in? There’s little in the way of good bullets for .257 long range shooting.

It’s a Rem 700 Long Range with the B&C M40 stock. Should be fun!

I haven’t used them in a 25-06 but in my 257 wby, I’ve had good luck overall with the 115vld’s, They are about as high as you will get BC wise. There are a few higher BC bullets but they require faster twist down here in Texas

The 115 Berger would make a good LR options for the 25-06. It will certainly get out past 1K yards.

Black Jack makes a 131 gr bullet (Sierra I think) but not sure it will stabilize in a 10 twist.

What powder to start with the 115 VLDs? 4350, 4831?

4831 works as does hv100. I'm about to try rl23 with the 115 as well since I keep a bit of it on hand.

I'd start with H4831, mine started shooting great (aggregates in the .5s) at 54+ grains. Your results may be different. It should work at 1000 but much more efficient options exist.

Yeah he would need a 7.5 twist for the Blackjacks.

For standard twist I would stick with 115vld or the 110 eldx honestly.

Anything in the H1000 burn rate area. 4831 would be fine on the faster side, and Retumbo would work well (on the slower burn rate side) if you had a longer barrel. But anything around the H1000 burn rate would be ideal, IMO.

My loads (3100 FPS out of a 20” bbl + brake) are the 115 VLD over H1000.

I used Retumbo with the 115's ( @ 3400 FPS ) and easily got to 1000. I also use Retumbo for the 131's ( 3200 FPS ). I just picked up some RL 25 and have a ladder loaded up and ready to go. Mine is a Ackley.
