What would you compare the Aoudad to ? Heard both bad and good but how its handled makes the difference.

Aoudad good? Never had it. It looks awesome! I have only shot this one. It was a mature ewe. It has been fantastic eating. I would not hesitate to shoot another one. Not for sure how a big ram would be, but I’d sure try it.

What would you compare the Aoudad to ? Heard both bad and good but how its handled makes the difference. If you can imagine 80 % venison 15 % beef 5 % lamb Something like that in a flavor profile, if that makes any sense. I guess I’d compare it to venison. Slightly different. This is the only one I have ever shot and eaten. It was a mature ewe. I made a quick , clean kill. Gutted her quickly, and got her cooled down fast. Had her hang in cooler for 5-6 days before she was processed. It has been some fine eating! Before I went on the hunt I had many people tell me Aoudad wasn’t fit to eat. It was nasty. Leave it for the yotes. It’s trash. Even the ewes and kids are not edible. I have always been one to eat what I shoot, and form my own opinion on the taste of game. I have enjoyed many game meats that others have said are trash. Wild turkey, feral hog, javelina, duck, sand hill crane, and Aoudad to name a few. I have found that if game is harvested, cleaned, processed, and cooked properly, it is all good.

Not for sure how a big ram would be, but I’d sure try it. You head the nail on the head - the Ewe's (younger are better) taste great. The big rams most buzzards don't care for. Both taste like crap when in rut
