This may have been discussed already.... I am happy to support an American made company, but I wish they would actually finish their pans before "seasoning". Or just not season at all. I always have to strip a new pan down to smooth metal and start over. So what it the point of pre-seasoning a pan that starts out rougher than a county road detour??

I just inherited a ton of cast iron that needs stripping and seasoning. Any suggestions or Youtube vids that I can use to get the ball rolling?
edit - all of it has spots of rust and needs to be cleaned

Unfortunately, by the prices on each item, he knew what he had.

I throw them into my Primo smoker/grill and get the cast iron HOT. Spend an hour or more in there then a little oiling, and they are GTG.

This! Or if you want to support an American company and not have to refinish yourself, just buy a Stargazer.

A while back I thought about buying one, but kind of wanted to hear something good from somebody that has one. I think I read that they are a little lighter than some others, and wondered if that was a bad thing.

They tell you up front, your card will be charged immediately, and the item will ship in 8-12 weeks currently. Must be a hell of a business to have the money in your pocket before you even start to make the goods. I will forget about it soon and have a nice surprise for Thanksgiving maybe.

The best game is to play “let’s find it before they know what they have” I’d like to think I’m decent at it but it takes a ton of time effort.

I have both the 10.5 and 12” and absolutely love them. The 12” is a workhorse. It took me a little while to figure out heat settings on my burners & how much oil to use, but I’m a pro now.

Cowboy Kent Rollins has a number of YouTube videos about seasoning and smoothing cast iron. He also has great recipes.
