I was working on some blind maintenance for a client when I came across this inhabited stand. The eviction process was an adventure!

I posted some related photos and videos on my Instagram and Facebook, it was intriguing to see how many Texans have never seen them before or even knew about them.

Great picture! Looks like the landowner should have acquired your services a little sooner.

Yeah they are very elusive little creatures. Only seen two in my life. One at night and we had one we think staying in our storage container. Saw him one day we were cleaning stuff out.

Had a lease in San Saba near Pontotoc,TX in the early 90's and if you left something open or unlocked on a blind, they were in it. never acted too aggressive, but didn't like being ran out either.

I cam across an old stand on a new lease I am on Sunday and found a white owl. Luckily we were expecting it, could have been bad lol.

Saw my first one at age 9, my dad saw him run across the headlights to an old dead oak. We stopped, grabbed a flashlight and peered into a hollow in the tree, he was curled up in the bottom about 18" away, trying to make himself extremely small. Made the mistake of taking one on a coon hunt 5-6 years later, still feel bad about it but the pelt was big $ at the time. I've seen two others since. They're neat, but man, they'll make a mess of a blind or cabin and their musk is pretty rank.

Absolutely! I used to volunteer at a place that did raptor rehabilitation and entering the owl mew was stressful!

I bet they did! Elusive little guys. If a trapper got them, well, he earned it.

Owls and vultures bang have had both in stands over the years.

We had an old stand that the door came off of and a lease member left a sack of corn in it. The raccoons found it and looked like they moved in and lived there until the corn was gone depositing their digestive processed corn all over the floor and chair. That stand got a new name.

Ringtail cats are come cool little critters

That sounds like a problem that can only be fixed with gasoline.

One of the first times I hunted by myself I woke up a ringtail when I opened the door to the stand. I don't know who was more surprised but thankfully I didn't fall off the ladder and he made his way out so I didn't have to hunt on the ground under the stand.

Of all the wild critters I ever raised, ringtails make the best pets. Not as destructive or intelligent as a coon. Very sweet and love affection.
Adios,
Gary

Cool animal! I would love to see one in the flesh!! So far in the year and a half we have had our property I have found a flying squirrel and three Texas rat snakes in our large blind. After the last snake I sealed all the openings with that expanding foam.
