Doing some research for a buddy of mine who is in the deer mineral game. I pitched the idea of a hog attractant, since I have been hunting hogs for a number of years. I know a lot of y’all are going to say straight corn and yes I do agree, but throw that idea out the window. Regardless of powder, granules, or even liquid whether it be sweet or sour what flavor would y’all be most likely to buy?

I have used some strawberry jello in the past, but can't really say it did a lot better than plain corn. I would pour a box of it in the 5 gal bucket of corn, and fill it with water to the top of the bucket. Let it sit around for a day or two and then into the traps.

People want miracles. We have threads (multiple) every month on this subject of hog attractants. We have one that is just barely a week old right now, LOL.

but it is entertaining to hear about these concoctions and how the inventor believes it to be THE miracle potion

Corn flavor.

Oh wait, I could just buy corn…

I know some folks like those things, but I'm just not a believer.

I have an old bath tub on my place that I pour corn in and then put water in it all the way to the top. It doesn't smell until you scoop it out with a shovel so nothing bothers it. When I want a hog up close I just shovel some out on the ground. It's still just corn.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

The biggest difference maker for me is using steamed crimped corn. It has been flattened and broke open. Then just soak it in water or your favorite concoction. The reason it works well is that the scent carries a long ways.

Key word...
Corn by itself has no strong oder...
Reason people add, ta get stronger oder...
Had my corn feeder off in edge of trees as a dinner bell
Food plot for deer was more in open, by creek were the deer were crossing...

Nothing fancy, water crossing, food plot, & dinner bell, (corn feeder)...
If their around they'll find it... Usualy @ night... Cooler weather, darkness,
Put trail cam ta monitor movement...
Had other food plot by oak tree. With another corn feeder..
Home made lean too ladder stand against tree edge of trees.
aim roughly 20-25 yrs shot left & right... Had cellular lights in oval shape by creek, it was little darker area.
Scope over AR223 with laser under zeroed.
My hunts @ OSBWMA were close range shots, lots of hunt, scouting, away from trails thick hard reach area's...

Sometimes the simple things in life are all it takes...

We had a guy that said he would use blackberry Kool-Aid. Just Kool-Aid, not Kool-Aid added to corn.
He would sprinkle it on the ground in a trap.
He said that is was not as good as corn but that he did not catch deer in his traps.
He also did not have to re-bait every day.
I tried this and didn't have any luck When I switched to corn I started catching pigs... and deer bang

The biggest problem I've had with corn is non-target species(deer) eat it before the hogs show up after dark. My friend "soured" some corn by fermenting it for a week. The deer seemed to avoid it but the hogs loved it.

I kept catching does unitl I started soaking corn in diesel until it sours. It seems to continue to attract hogs, but the deer seem to avoid more.

Ah, but at my place, the raccoons devoured the soured corn.
