It won't be long before it will be time to drag out those boots and get them ready for another year of abuse. Unlike years past, there are a lot of products on the market these days that can make rubber and leather boots last through many hunting seasons. With silicone being the longstanding recommendation for protecting rubber, I've seen no less than a half-dozen silicone sprays that are touted as being good for protecting rubber. As for leather, I've always preferred something more natural like mink oil to protect it from the elements.

While I'll often use silicone spray on my cheaper rubber boots, a product that I use on the more expensive boots is one made by LaCrosse. While it's a little pricey, I've found it leaves a protective layer that seems to last through most of the season. It has always worked so well in fact that I usually find myself buying new boots not because of worn out rubber but because the leather uppers haven't kept up.

I have always liked vaseline for leather boots. It's extremely cheap and easy to apply. I just use a paper towel and buff it in. I believe it does a great job at waterproofing.

I’ve been using Obenauf's Heavy-Duty Leather Preservative on my leather boots for several years. Works great.
