When I got in from work today, it felt like the cold front was just blowing in. Temp felt like it was dropping and a stiff NW wind was blowing. It had me thinking about bird hunting so I let Cricket out of his kennel. He went blowing down to the edge of the woods and slammed into a point.

I laughed at him and took a pic. After watching him on point for about five minutes I called him to heel. Then turned him back loose and he went boiling back down to the edge of the woods and locked up again right next to my old trailer and down wind of the same area.

This time I walked out in the woods upwind. About 40 yards out a dadgum woodcock flushed. Bird season is just around the corner...

Early bugger! I hope its a good WC season. I only got out for them once last year due to a mystery flu-like virus that led to pnuemonia and a heart attack. As long as I don't croak this year, it should be a much better timberdoodle season.

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

I don’t often see them in my area either Bill, especially in September. I think my dog was disappointed in me that I didn’t do more about it....
