I have an Aoudad hunt in a few weeks with Mulie Mike and I was wondering what you guys have to say bout these bullets. I have some 162g hornady precision hunter eld-x and some nosler acubond trophy grade 160g bullets. they both shoot well out of my 7 mag. I shot both out to 785 yards at my range. Would either be better on aoudad?

Tough call, both bullets have a good reputation but of the two I would say AccuBond as that is the one I have the most experience with. Haven’t shot an Aoudad with an AccuBond but I know what it has done on several Elk over the years!

Really though I can’t see how you could go wrong using either one.

Good luck on your hunt!

Did you ask Mulie Mike?

He has said ELDs do well on Aoudad.

My botnet is bigger than yours.

Just curious, is there a speed difference between the two ammo?

For that caliber and use i would probably take the accubonds.

I have shot several deer with an ELDX and found them to behave very well on game, but im starting a 175 at 2605 FPS, i think that has a lot to do with it. Had i pushed them fast out of a magnum im curious myself if i would get the same result. I prefer more penetration and less gaping hole others prefer the other way around. Your mileage may vary. I do think Hornady moving the interlock ring to the mid section of the bullet instead of the shank helps the ELDX's be a more controlled expanding bullet.

Accubonds are tough bullets. Good choice for higher velocity rounds, of which a 7mag qualifies.

I calculated the accubonds at 2925fps and the eldx at 2975fps using the ballistic AE ap.

Actually, no. I didn't ask him.

I was shooting this weekend trying to decide which I would use and thought I would ask the guys on THF because there are some really knowledgeable people on here.

I've shot a crapload of aoudad of all sizes. The 160 AB is a perfect bullet for these animals. To look at it another way, you may not shoot one at long range, and I'd trust an Accubond at close range way more than an ELDX at close range.

Yep, Aoudads can withstand a lot of abuse if you don’t hit a vital organ. A close range blow up may lead to them frowning at you. I’d use the accubond. For the record I have no idea how the eldx would perform at close range and high velocity, but the accubond will do the job.

I shot an Aoudad out in the Davis Mtns at 305 yds with a 300WM using the 200g ELD-x. One timed it. Was a well placed shot but was a big 30X31 inch ram and it made it 10 feet from where I hit it. The ELD-x will to just fine

In the 7 Mag, either will make a good choice. If you want the higher weight retention, the nod would go to the AB.

I have shot two whitetail bucks at less than 50 yards with a 145 grn eld-x. 270 Win at around 3000 FPS. Both deer were recovered but I was disappointed in bullet performance. Bullet appeared to be pretty soft for the job at that velocity. I shot an antelope at 296 yards with the same bullet and load and the bullet performed flawlessly. I haven’t used the Accubonds much but if there is a possibility of shots at less than 50 yards I would go with the Accubonds. If I hunt antelope again with that rifle, I would not hesitate to use the eld-x’s.

Accubonds have been around longer and have a very good reputation, I know none of the critters I have shot with accubonds have lived long enough to complain.

I’ve used a fair amount of each in 7mm. I’ve been highly pleased with both. I consider the Accubond to be a tougher bullet. The ELD-X is a flatter flying bullet. To decide between the two involves considerations between distance and speed, as well as the durability of the target. I hear rumors of aoudad tenacity, but vitals are vitals. I’d be confident with either projectile, but higher speeds and nearer ranges would sway me towards the Accubond.

I've got lots of experience with the ELD-X. Both shooting it far, as well as killing animals with it. It has done a great job at both for me. As far as performance on game, 20 yards on a hog brainstem is the closest I've got. Almost any bullet will cause instant death on that shot. 200 yards on whitetail is the next closest shot. Several animals between 200 and 500 yards, all positive results.

But I can't talk bad about the Accubond because I have no experience with it on animals. Today I spotted for lots of them going down range, and they were getting wind drifted pretty badly. God forbid we start talking about BC.

Either, I’ve killed a few with 115gr VLD and 129 ABLR. You are over thinking this one

Give him a call. They've seen the results of lots of cartridges, including yours, at lots of distances and in lots of conditions. He'll have good input.

I ran the 160’s (ELD-X) at 3300 and shot a couple does inside 100 yards, aiming for heavy bone, to see how they held up. It wasn’t pretty, but I’ve seen worse, as far as that goes. They held up fine. Weight loss was significant, as you would expect, but retention was sufficient enough for satisfactory penetration. They died in short order.

I’ve shot a lot of deer with accubonds, and they work well, but I wouldn’t have no problem using the eldx bullet either.. a few weeks ago I sent a eldx through a 1/2” piece of steel at 300 yards just blew a clean 1/2” hole right through it like butter out of a 6.5-284

I would use the Accubond since you shoot them both well at distance. The bonding will give some extra insurance They are designed to mimic Partitions so the terminal performance is ideal.
