I pulled out these cast iron cornbread pans last night for the first time in a while. I usually use a bigger cast iron skillet but I only made a few cornbread sticks last night . What do you prefer to cook your cornbread in ?

Those are the best crunchy cornbread out there. Great in a bowl of beans. You can vacuum pack and freeze the corn sticks too.

Exactly how I cook mine. Then take it out of the oven, cut it hot, fill up a big glass or bowl with it, then add the cold whole milk. I love cornbread & milk.

I used to make cornbread in an old cheap skillet that was warped on the bottom and had a broken handle..... but it made hundreds of pans of great cornbread that never stuck. Then we moved and my wife threw it away while she was packing. Not good.

The newer cast iron pots and pans just aren't the same quality as the old ones from our parents day. Always on the lookout in thrift stores. and pawn shops for any of those.

I have a 5" frying pan, and both 10" and 12" dutch ovens, that are old. They do 90% of my cooking. While not cast iron, my favorite is a 1930's cast aluminum Maytag washing machine lid, which is our griddle. It has been responsible for the demise of hundreds of pounds of bacon/sausage, and literally thousands of pancakes! smile

I will edit to tell you that the grease drains out the slots for the hinges, and you have to be careful where you put your bare feet!!

A 8 inch Wagner Ware skillet. There's a half a loaf of corn bread in it as I write and I'm about to do something about that.

Most of the time we bake our cornbread in a skillet. At deer camp we have no oven, the cornbread was usually made using the Jiffy Cornbread Muffin Mix and a waffle maker. I tried it in the electric skillet, but we liked the cornbread waffles.

I either make corn bread in a muffin pan or in a normal 9" round cake pan or glass 9x9 or 9x13 baking pan.

I just made ground beef with taco seasoning and more cumin. Poured some cornbread, taco meat, then more cornbread over the top and baked.

Put cheddar and picante on top. Very very simple.
