Hey guys, haven't been on here for a good while. Question, because of all the turmoil going on and seems like be spreading to rural areas, is a conceal carry permit a good idea right now? I carry firearms 24/7, I run cattle so always got firearms in pickup. I also hear that if you have a conceal carry license and get stopped for drinking or DWI the penalty is worse? I have been avoiding the permit relying on the Castle Law. Any input?

You planning on getting a DUI, or something? Just so you know, I don’t think getting a DUI is much fun regardless of how you go about it.
A license to carry is always a good idea. I’m having a hard time figuring out the drawbacks to it.

Yes can you can also be charged with UCW License Holder if you're intoxicated in a public place while carrying with a LTC. That being said, you can be charged with regular UCW for carring a handgun in your vehicle if you're Publicly Intoxicated or DWI without a LTC. Essentially, the same outcome.

If you get drunk while carrying and driving in Austin, there won't be anyone left to pull you over. Move there and you can get snockered while going heels.

There is really no reason not to get an LTC. As far as the DWI, like ntxtrapper posted, you're going to catch two charges either way. The only difference is the arrest title of the second charge.

I was taught "1 drink = no gun." On your property, alone, is a different matter. Get your LTC.

I’d recommend stop drinking and get your LTC.

0 tolerance w/LTC while carrying. Exactly, does not mean I cannot drink at home. Hell, beer is cheaper anyways here

LTC has been a good idea for a very long time now. The fact that your fear of getting a DWI has kept you from getting your LTC speaks volumes. Maybe you should take a look at your drinking habits? And that's not coming from a tea-toteler. I can drink with the best of them. I just plan ahead and won't drive.

Isn't there a difference between having a firearm accessible from the driver seat and say, one underneath the back set of your vehicle? A friend wants to know.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Other states have ridiculous conditions like you describe. We did have these ridiculous laws in the past before CHL law came around. A CHL license does have one great benefit if you visit the state capital: you don’t have to be illegally searched; show your CHL, and enter.

Im far from a drunk, but i can understand the concern for the drinking end of it.
I use to not be a fan of it, but now i carry nearly everywhere i go, to work, to church, out and about etc. If im going to a gathering where i will partake of the wonderful drink known as beer that is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy i leave it at home.
It's hell eatin em live
