The new AR is to be my knock-around ATV and RTV gun. I have a front rack on the ATV, but have nothing for the Kubota RTV. If I mount something on the floor, it’ll keep me from the possibility to have 3 people in the seat. I think that leaves me with a roof mount option or a behind the head option. And there may be other options I haven’t thought of.

What are you fellows doing for your Side by side gun mount?

I tried one of the overhead 2 gun racks in my RTV. I just didn't like it and it took some time to get a gun in and out. I bought and returned one that mounts in the floor but it limits floor space and only 2 people can sit in the seat.

I looked at mounting one horizontal across the windshield but there is not much room between the steering wheel and the windshield and when raising above the steering wheel, the gun is in line of sight. I ended up mounting an old school 3 gun rack (like we used to have in the rear window of our trucks) onto the high seat in the bed ... but the dust is horrible. You could probably mount something similar on the mesh behind your head.

Thanks for the comments. You answered some of my questions, particularly about the overhead mount. So I think it now is a decision between mounting it on that mesh behind the seat or the Seizmik 2 gun holder that straps down to the seat. Should be easy to put in and take out, and it’ll supposedly hold an AR.

I have and prefer the overhead 2 gun rack from Big Sky Country on the Rangers I have owned and have now. I can put two rifles or a rifle and spotting scope in mine. I also have Kolpin Gun boots mounted on either side on my Ranger and had the same on Mules on a ranch I managed. They are easy to take on and off if you don't want to us them. I like the gun boots in wet or very dusty weather, especially out in West Texas.

Do you have a windshield? If not you can mount facing forward. I have mine done that way on my Mule. I'll try to find a pic.

I'd test fit it on that mesh screen behind your head before mounting it there. It may turn into a back of the head bumper.

I do have a windshield. The behind the head mount might be a problem, since there isn’t much room between the front of the seat and the mesh. The Kolpin idea looks good, with it mounted off to the side and the rifle would be enclosed. I like that, and I like that the barrel would point down.

So now it would seem that it’s a Kolpin or the Seizmik that attaches to the seat with the seat belt. I’ll check if an AR will fit in the Kolpin.

I have a Cabella's heavy material double rifle zipper case that use on back behind seats attached horizontal between roll bars. easy in and out and really helps on dust but not as well as Kolpin cases.

I have one of these on mine

Classic Accessories 18-130-016001-00 Next Vista G1 Camo QuadGear UTV Double Gun Carrier https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TPUIFTY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_i_NYawFbW09JEKC

It does block your vision if you try to look backwards through the back metal mesh, but that’s why they make side view mirrors

Thanks,
Rich

I have 3 of the kolpin design gun scabbards that I would sell for cheap, the larger objective lens on my scopes just don't fit down in them ... I'll make you a deal on 2!!!!

I'm a fan of the big sky racks, but I also mounted an old school gun rack to the front of my electric buggy for the 30-30. Critter runs out and I can be on it real quick.

no idea but I doubt it ... I will get my son to bring his AR over this weekend to see if it works.
