I think I have a winner in this newly released version of the Sightmark Wraith. Looking forward to getting it zeroed on a couple of different rifles and going to work on the varmint population.

This is just what the Southern hog hunter has been asking for. With exactly twice the FOV as the Wraith 4x HD, this is a clear winner for guys who aren't shooting 150+ yards all the time.

I didn't record any footage because frankly, it would be boring as heck. I did sight in the Wraith 2-16x28 today on my M&P 15-22 for varmint work around the house and barns and two profiles for my 25-45 Sharps. One profile is for the 70 grain SBK and one for the 87 grain Speer Hot Cor. The one shot zero didn't work very well for me, as the adjustments tended to move the POI much farther than expected it to several times. I know how it's supposed to work and to a degree it does but the initial movements for each profile kind of slung the POI around instead of nudging it over. Once I got the POI close to what I was wanting, the adjustments were easier to manage. I should have eyeball bore sighted each profile when starting like I would a regular scope. It would have saved me a heck of a lot of 200 yd round trips. Once I got the scope set for each profile, I turned it off and removed it from the rifle. I remounted it, turned it back on and selected the appropriate profile and the scope did very well retaining POI. Switching from rifle to rifle does not seem like it will be a problem. I am really looking forward to cooler weather and getting my feeders going. More than likely, the coons will be pounding the feeders soon after and I will be dealing death with the Wraith. Also, between the Wraith and my Flir PTS233, the coyotes around here are in serious trouble.

I'm just about to buy one online and noticed the new 2x version. Came to THF to see if anyone knew anything about it and you guys are already discussing.

Bar-D, what do you think the max range is for the 2x version? Is the FOV worth the trade off in distance?

For what it's worth, my opportunities to shoot over 150 yards are fairly limited but there are a few 150+ shots that come up.

I ordered a 4-32x50 originally and after looking around at where I would be shooting with it, I was afraid the 4x magnification would be too much. A week after I bought it, the 2-16x28 was released. I sent mine back and traded for one and am glad I did. The FOV is a great tradeoff in my opinion. I think 150 yds is doable but you might consider a more powerful IR illuminator. I have an aftermarket one that I will use for longer shots. With the right IR, I don't think 200 yds + would be any problem at all.

This is excellent,
I was looking elsewhere on opinions on the smaller versions vs the original 4-32x56mm ones, and couldn't find much. I felt that the 2-16 may be better suit for where I would be able to find hogs (piney woods near SHNF) vs open crop land.

I didn't know pig popper from youtube was here !! Love your videos

Which aftermarket illuminator did you add to it?

Pretty much normal Chinese made fodder. It is a 38mm convex lens with a 3w osram chip. I forget what I paid for it, I've had it several years but it puts out a surprising amount of IR light.
I don't want to shoot 300 yds at night so I don't need a $500 light to go with it but I do want to SEE 300 yds. I'll get around to testing this for distance and go from there.

I just ordered the Sniper Hog Light 50LRX IR Illuminator from Outdoor Legacy to go on my Wraith 2-16x28. I'm hoping I'll have it on time for my trip to the ranch next weekend. I'll report back on my experience between the stock IR and the Sniper Hog.

Will it fit in the Wraith IR mount with clearance?

Not sure. The guys at OL said they were running it on their setup but not sure if they are mounting on the hand guard or the scope. I plan on mounting on my hand guard but I'll try mounting it on the scope and let you know if there are any issues.

Good to know, I have been waffling back and forth between that one and a Night Snipe 550. We will be waiting for the report. rifle

Thank you!! Please report back, I think you're going to be very pleased.

We were running the 66LRX but with the upgraded 850 IR LED's in the LRX models it's crazy how bright they are. We're not getting dang near the distance out of the much smaller 50mm head as we were out of the 66mm head. Hans and I switched to the 50LRX and haven't looked back. Some guys want to see even further and the new LED in the 66LRX is crazy bright too.

The Predator Pro mount from Sniper Hog that we include in the kit has multiple spacers in the kit with it so you can mount everything from the Coyote Cannon all the way down the small 38LRX with no issues at all. The one weird thing about the Wraith HD is that when you mount it on top of the scope, the oval shaped thumb screw can hit the side of the Wraith HD and not let you tighten it down all the way. This won't happen on a hand guard, the Wraith 4K Max etc. It's because of the slanted shape of the HD. The very simple fix is adding a very small washer under the thumb screw on the Predator Pro mount and it adds just enough clearance so that it's no issues at all tightening it down.

We highly recommend mounting the light under the barrel or on the left or the right of it, as far out as possible. Mounting on top of or right beside the scope is honestly the worst position but it's the easiest for most people so that's understandable. But if you can, I'd definitely suggest moving it out towards the end of the barrel for the best performance.

Hopefully that helps.

Jason

Thanks for that information, Jason! I'm currently running a 3-9 Burris and have a light mounted to the side all the way to the front of the handguard. I could mount the IR in that same spot for the Wraith.

I just got my new 50LRX Sniper Hog IR setup on my Wraith. The stock IR is definitely serviceable but the 50LRX is a huge upgrade. There are some power lines off in the distance that you can barely make out with the stock IR. When I turn on the 50LRX it lights it up like a Christmas tree. I'm estimating the distance to be about 200 yards and you can tell the IR will shine way past that distance. No video yet as I was just playing around with it in my back yard. I'm heading to the ranch in the morning and I'll shoot some video to show the difference.

I have no regrets with my IR purchase. The hogs are in trouble.

Well.... I just typed this up and realized there is no way to upload a video without posting it to YouTube. If your interested in the video shoot me a PM and I'll get it to you.

I had a chance to test out the Sightmark to compare it's performance with the stock IR vs the 50LRX. First let me start by tipping my hat to the Pig_Poppers of the world. Your videos are top notch and I'm almost embarrassed to post mine. That being said here's the situation. (note that I was standing without the aid of a tripod)

The first 20 seconds of the video is looking at a tree line that is approx 150 yards out using the stock IR. It's very dark and I would not feel comfortable shooting anything at this distance. While I don't have it on the video the stock IR was adequate at 100 yard ranges.

The remainder of the video is the 50LRX looking at the same spot. You can see the difference is night and day. It is a little blurry but that was my fault as I didn't have the scope adjusted properly. I did use the light to view deer moving out to 200 yards. I don't think I would take the shot but would feel comfortable shooting pigs out to 150 (maybe 175) yards with the 50LRX

I'm sure both lights can perform better once I'm better at making the necessary adjustments to optimize the scope and light.

Another thing to note is it was very dark on Friday and Saturday night. So there was zero ambient light.

Sighting was very easy. Boar sighted, took one shot (a little low and left), make the necessary adjustment and it was pinpoint accurate.

All in all I'm very happy with the scope and 50LRX. I can already see that it's not the best setup to scan so I'll be saving up for a monocular purchase in the near future.
