You wield your 500/4 (?) with authority!

The third one in this set is my favorite because:
Your off-center composure gives this image a powerful sense of context that holds the viewer's eye. Your depth of field is right where it needed to be in order to "feature" the obvious target of the buck, without tossing the prickly pear into oblivion. The shot before it has all of the great technical merits including a shallow DOF and it is a great shot - but this one speaks to me more.

Marc

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Thanks..but I am still learning how to use the camera and lens correctly. I take and edit photos in a way that appeals to me and that may not be the correct way a true photographer would do it. I do not always like the animal looking directly at me most of the time...especially on bucks. I like to be able to see all the points and character of the antlers..something you may not be able to see if they are looking directly at the lens. I shoot on F/4 almost all the time to keep the subject animal in focus and shallow DOF. I want the animals face and eyes as crisp and sharp as a I can get them. I am still learning to adjust the lens and camera based off of lighting at that time. I prefer a bit darker photos to brighter sunlit ones....it is just my preference. For me, I guess it has more to do with hunting rather than photography.....most animals tend to move better in low light so I try to capture that as I remember it in my photos. I like bright overcast days the most.

Love black and white...todays digital age seems to overlook how great they can be. Google Ansel Adams to see some of the best B&W every taken.

Couple from this morning. He is ready to shed his velvet as the dried and tight velvet looks white in the B&W pics.
