Nope not me but my buddy is headed out to Alaska in 2 weeks.He is hunting with an outfitter (of course) and has TWO grizz tags.The money he is paying is well a bit much for this po folk but he can swing it and I am happy for him.

He has hunted elk, black bear etc but never ventured to Alaska and never hunted this type of beast. His wife is going with him as a non hunter and they are also going to do some salmon fishing.

Have any of you been on a legit Grizz hunt? just trying to get some insight. BTW it is a 10 day fully guided hunt. On a plus side with COVID the airplane tickets are only 300 each ROUND TRIP from Houston, so yeah.

Never been but have seen several large Grizzlies in Yellowstone.
I watched one eating on a buffalo carcass along the river.
It was about 1/2 mile from me and I set up my spotting scope on my hood and watched him for about 15-20 minutes until he decided to walk off.
Let me just say that it was not a young buffalo this grizzly was eating on and that damn bear wasn't a whole lot smaller than that buffalo!
I've seen some good sized black bears and that grizzly made a big black bear look like a cub!

I hope he gets a big one. That would be one hell of a live mount for sure.

I have been, not hunting grizzly/brown bear though. Spent a good 5 mins on a standoff with a young brown bear boar trying to get on my moose meat as we were waiting for the super cub to fly us out. Talk about an intense and uneasy moment. Wasn’t sure how it was going to go down but we managed to get him to leave. Oh.....and sleeping at night......well, you don’t. Hope he hasa safe and rewarding experience.

Never been never will.

I dont know what it is about them, but bears have zero appeal to me. I dont want to shoot one i dont want to eat one i dont want to try one. Nothing for or against them, just zero want to do it.

Never hunted them or been to Alaska. There was a member (Dawaba) on here that hunted Alaska and posted about it.

Haven't hunted them, but run into them on a regular basis here in the mountains while hunting or hiking. They are large and impressive, and will certainly give you shivers!! If you ever watch them cover ground in a hurry, you would know why yo can't out-run one!! Pictures aren't great, but I'm usually unholstering the bear spray and/or pistol and take them one-handed.

Wow Blank, ya'll have that many grizzlies near Idaho Falls or is that further NE over towards Teton and Yellowstone?

Yes, just 60 miles north of Idaho Falls, from Ashton clear up into Montana and all the way east to Dubois WY. Anything close to Yellowstone, Tetons, or Jackson area is full of them anymore. My friend who lives in Bozeman will usually run into several during a week long bow hunt for elk. Where we camp in June and July on the Madison River will usually have one of two in a 14 day trip.

I hope the hunt lives up to expectations. The experience should be epic!

My brother who lives in Bozeman has property closer to Yellowstone and the Grizzlies are out of hand. If you shoot an elk you better get it out quick because you will have a Grizz on it in short order.
I spent 12 days floating the Wild River in Alaska on an archery moose hunt, did not sleep much. Grizzly tracks everywhere. Never did see one but the wolves were thick.

I'm betting the cattle ranchers in that area do their own population control undercover!!!

I watched one chase an elk calf down in a meadow above the Yellowstone river once and can vouch for their speed and agility. Pretty damn frightening to see an animal with that size, strength, and body mass move like that!

I live in Alaska and have hunted them quite a bit. I have also run into them when not hunting them. They are impressive creatures and can take a hell of a lot of damage from a big rifle and still get you.

I have been charged three times. Once by a sow with two small cubs with my father and brother while we were cleaning a moose. It was a bluff charge, but she got quite close and we probably should have shot her, but we didn't want to have to mess with the DLP issue and it being a sow with cubs. And to top that night off, she went off in the direction of camp, with two older gut piles between us and camp that we had to go near. Nothing like walking through the brush in the dark with only the light of headlamps to see, covered in blood, and two gut piles and a mean sow with cubs somewhere out there.

Another time was with my dad over a moose gut pile by an old sow. She didn't make it, but she took 9 shots between my 7mm mag and my fathers 300 WinMag before dying. And the first two were square in the chest as she was standing tall checking us out and started down to come. Just amazing how much she moved around before dying, including coming at us twice and retreating.

What unit is he hunting in? Two tags for a non-resident is spendy, let alone the guide. I hope he fills his tags, as they are moose and caribou eating machines.

I will try and find out who the outfitter is. I want to say he got in on a deal cause the other hunter backed out and lost his deposit. I want to say he is paying like 24 Gs for the chance at two grizzlies.
