I'm stuck on this one. I personally don't care to shoot one, some animals are just too pretty and mysterious to shoot. NOW, if they have developed a taste for bovine or MAYBE deer , then it's up to the landowner.

Wish they would develop a SERIOUS taste for feral hog !!!

We've never lost any livestock to a lion. IMO they're so few and far between I would not shoot one. But, if one started in on our livestock and made a habit of it, all bets are off.

I like stumbling through the darkness on my way too/fro the blind in the dark sitting up on a tree and hunting in the dark waiting for light etc. I dont like the idea of a mountain lion on the prowl while im doing it. Sure it would "probably" catch sight, sound, or scent of me and head for the hills, but if it decided i would make a tasty meal in the dark... he would have a big upper hand.

Shoot for me.

I'm pretty much with Giblett. I will eventually kill one intentionally. Anymore than one would be highly dependent on the situation, and how good the first one tasted.

Bears are high on my list as well.

My landowners are sort of split on that. Most want me to shoot them on sight. Three are a definite do NOT shoot.

I have seen them twice. Once NOT on the property I was hunting but next door. The other time, no rifle in hand.

I used to camp and hunt just outside of Big Wells. A couple years we saw a big cat, I'm guessing a cougar but it had a real dark coat. It used to watch us while we watched it (that made getting out of the tent to pee at night real interesting). Had more than one chance to shoot it but we all gave her a pass because it was more cool to be able to watch her.

There's a difference between a place where they are infrequently seen and one where they are established with a sufficient population to reduce livestock and wild animal populations.

I've been lucky enough to see a couple of lions but I've never had a desire to shoot one.

Definitely shoot. I'd be on the phone with my Taxidermist before it quit kicking.

When I was younger, would have shot one.

Since I passed 60 years ago, I would give one a walk.

Now, would shoot one with a cameras though.

I've said a thousand times I'd rather kill a big adult lion than a B&C buck any time!

I fully respect those whose opinion it is not to shoot them but if it is because they think there are not man, think again. Just because you don't see them very often does not mean they are not plentiful.
I read one comment on here where the posters sad that if they started killing livestock or deer they would shoot it. I'm thinking that most adult mountain lions don't make a living out of eating rabbits and other small animals.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Our landowner and biologist have convinced us to leave them be. We don't get enough doe tags or shoot enough bucks to impact the herd size. So the lions taking a few deer isn't a problem in their eye's. If we ever loose livestock to a cat, that opinion will 180 in a heart beat.

To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.

I pretty sure in Texas there consider a varmint and no special tag is required.

Same thing applies to those who seem to believe every single, stinking coyote needs to go

Correcto! I love hunting them with hounds but hunting where there's pretty good populations. I have seen the deer population in most western states decline due in part to an uncontrolled predator population. I was visiting with a Game Warden friend in the Navajo Nation and he told me that not one fawn that was collared in their survey survived to maturity. All were killed by coyotes, bears or lion.
For years I have hunted a large ranch in NM that held a healthy mule deer population back in the 60's. They always had coyotes but it wasn't until lions moved onto the ranch did the mule deer almost disappear. It seems the coyotes kill most of the fawns while the lions work on the mature deer. I recommended that they get a pack of hounds and remove some of the lions and they did nearly 10 years ago and now the deer populations are returning.
Adios,
Gary

I would not shoot one. To each their own, some livestock is affected. I get it. I would protect mine too. I just would not hunt one for the sport of it. I like to look at them.
