Last Thursday, good Friends, Larry Weishuhn and Mark McDonald came down for a visit and a little business. Larry wanted an interview with Mark, Brian Hawkins, my son, Steve and I for DSC's Trailing the Hunter's Moon podcast. While he was here, we shot video of Larry, Mark and I looking at EYES FRONT and discussing it for an episode of CARNIVORE. Mark was the publisher of the book and past outdoor writer for most major newspapers in the state as well as editor of the TEXAS SPORTING JOURNAL.
We spent the night upon the San Saba River west of Menard and had a great time reliving lots of old memories.
Adios,
Gary

That's great, met Weishuhn at Las Cazadores probably 15 years ago, shortly after he joined or became ownership there. Seemed to be a nice guy and a lot taller than I thought, probably 6'3" or 6'4". Out of curiosity, has his shooting improved over the last several years; I've been without the Sportman's Channel or Outdoor Channel for several years now and haven't been able to see any of his shows the last several years. He seemed to miss or wound more animals than the majority of the others or possibly he was just a lot more honest in showing those misses than the others, likely the latter of the two I'm guessing.

Met him at a DSC "event' held at a distillery in Bulverde. I indicated he looked younger in person than he did on TV. I meant it as a compliment but don't think he took it that way.

Larry Weishuhn shows it like it is. Several years ago he was on a hunting show, think Bucks of Tecomate, shooting a TC handgun. A nice buck comes out and he misses, deer didn't leave or left a short while and came back, can't remember, he shot and missed again. He then moved to another stand and the same deer shows up. Not sure if he missed again then killed him or got him on first shot. Not many people would allow that to air.

Most of his shooting can be attributed to shooting a handgun that some sponsor wanted promoted on a hunt that he was not totally familiar with. He is honest to a fault and will show and tell what happened when others would not allow it to be shown. Larry is an excellent shot with a rifle and way above average with a handgun. I have been on the range and many times over the last 30 years. And yes, he is a big old boy at 6' 3" and heavy boned German. I am about 6 ft. but a chicken boned raggedy [censored]...or at least that what my German buddies used to say.
If you ever have the chance to visit with him, please do so. Larry has a God Given talent of making everyone feel special...some I try to do myself.
Adios,
Gary

I know that you'll are not going to believe that I screwed up but I did. Larry's podcast is DSC UNTAMED HERITAGE. His TV show was TRAILING THE HUNTER'S MOON. Heck to get old....
Adios,
Gary

If you like their writing you'll like Gary's. Picked up his new book Eyes Front, I'm about half way through now and really enjoying it.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I have met and known both Larry and Mark since the mid 90's. Hunted with both of them also. Mark lived in Boerne when I met him and got to know him. Both are really good guys and very good writers. I have not seen or spoken with Mark since he left Boerne and moved up to Midland(????). Seen Larry quite a bit when he was a partner in Los Cazadores. My barber in Columbus was Larry's cousin.

I met Larry at a DSC chapter thing out past Kerrville, at a member's house. Heckuva nice guy. At supper, I accidentally spilled a drink on the Director (paid) of the DSC. I think some of it went in his lap. rofl He was none-too-pleased. He was quite full of himself. He's moved on. up
