Hello again all!

Still in the process of planning my first hunt with a friend and after talking with an experienced hunter he stated that most private leases do not allow stalking due to the liability involved (makes sense).

So I'm curious if anyone has leads on a hog lease that allows stalking or any comments about the situation. I do realize the chance of success when stalking can be significantly lower and its possible I will not bring back anything for a bit.

Thank you all!

I’ve never heard of a lease not allowing stalking. Not surprised if a small lease is against it, and maybe I live under a rock but never heard it mentioned. Of course I’ve had two glasses of wine, so there’s that....

Would have to consider size of property and how many people are there. I think most places would permit it.

Do you plan to have a feeder (or feeders) on this lease?

I’m gonna venture a guess & say no.

Sounds like public hunting is what you seek.

City people & new hunters always have silly dreams of stalking game.

I suppose anything is possible. I was once on a lease and we weren’t allowed to shoot coyotes. Landowner told me they ate baby pigs

Sounds like the "experienced hunter" you spoke with isn't so experienced after all. I've been on several leases and it's never been prohibited. Good hunters communicate with each other and tell each other where they're going to be and the area they'll be in.

agree ... only places I have heard that stalking wasn't allowed were day leases or guided/semi-guided hunts ... where they drop off a hunter at a stand to sit until they are picked up. Communication between lease members is the key, size of property also but even then, a small place can be set up safely with communication.

This is an absolutely ridiculous statement.

People who want a challenge like stalking have a admirable dream of stalking game. I have helped hunters of all experience level, ages, mobility, etc... stalk game and they all loved it, despite its challenges and limitations.

To the OP, sounds like your friend had smaller property experience, and in instances yes, they limit stalking. However, in bigger country, private or public, you should find these opportunities. We have hunted with teenagers on mentored hunts a huge ranch in the Big Empty of the Rolling Plains by spot and stalk. They offer leases, though i don't know how. Maybe check out Mesquite Country Outfitters, for leases or hunts.

Can be a bigger challenge than sitting in a blind waiting for a certain color ear tag to how up.

And now all opinions are represented.

Lots to unpack in that statement, pathologically speaking.

This is why I prefer to hunt during the week. I hunt my stand in the morning until about 10am, then start moving toward camp through the woods past a few other feeders and eventually back to camp at dark

I do it a couple times a year, usually shoot a white tail every year doing it. Not as high a success rate as sitting in a stand but is a whole lot more fun. This is the first year in about 10 that I've actually set up a feeder, but I shoot multiple animals off the place every year. Just because someone doesn't hunt the same way you do doesn't mean your right and they're wrong.

I really do not know the number of Nilgai, hogs, deer and other animals I have spotted and then successfully stalked. Saw this one from the blind and went after him. He's on the wall now.

I hunt almost 7000 acres and stand hunting is all that is allowed. No hunting from vehicles, stalking or night hunting is allowed. Some folks ruined the original plan by shooting deer in other hunter's areas. It is a high dollar low fence lease though. I can understand how that would piss these competitive hunters that come out only once or twice a year.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

How is he gonna learn? We don't use feeders and have killed a ton of great deer, oddly enough, all "stalked"
