He was pretty small. Maybe 100 lbs. I'm getting 3100 fps out of those fireforming loads with the 20" bbl. and 2750 fps with 95 gr Berger VLD's in the fired brass.
One shot is all it should take.

Grand Saline. I was surprised how sweet smelling the meat is when I dressed him out. More like a sow pig than a buck. He was covered in ticks and mites with lots of scars so it doesn't look like he just recently wandered off from a nice place.
One shot is all it should take.

Very nice gun and Axis. Thanks Mr. T. I just put it together and am really impressed so far. I was expecting to christen it with a coyote or pig so this axis really surprised me. He was pretty well endowed for a small deer.

Nicely done !!!
2750 FPS with the 95 grain VLD is impressive for the 20” tube
Is your brass showing any belting at those velocities - using Hornady brass or other ?
Thanks

Thanks Not yet, using new starline. I started off using that old fired Grendel Hornady and FC brass after I annealed it. Those loads got me in the ball game until the new lot of brass showed up. I'm running them into a 6mmAR die to resize the base, then the 6mm PPC to set the shoulder and neck diameter. Even though the LBC is supposed to be the same as the 6mmAR the shoulder set back is different on each of mine.
One shot is all it should take.
