Just purchased 160 acres for a possible place to retire and of course hunt on.
It’s between Goldthwaite / Mullin ( closer to Mullin )
When is Rut for this area?

Thanks

IME it has been the week after the first new moon in November or late October

Typically Nov 10th-17th is the heaviest time, with a peak around the 13th. Some of that will vary with density and ratio. The entire month of November is usually great hunting. Welcome to the county!

Awsome I definitely plan to get out there in Nov!
What’s Dec like after Rut?
December I need to take a few days off from work that may be a good place to go.

I hunted there for years and it seemed that very late Oct to the first week in November was a great time in the area we hunted. We were right outside of center city between star and goldthwaite.

December is fine, it will depend some on your numbers. We're east of Goldthwaite and covered up in deer. I've seen bucks chasing in late October, I've seen Thanksgivings where the rut was still hot, and I've seen some where it was over and done. The last couple of Decembers I've seen a lot of buck activity late in the month as part of either a second or third rut.

Yep! Varies a little year to year but 11/10-11/17 is a good average. Last year was somewhat crazy on our place we say deer chasing from late October to the end of January...seemed like the rut never stopped. Saw deer locked down the same time period as well.

Same here, they just kept going and going. We've tried to takes does but there are 1500-2000 acres immediately around us where almost no does are killed.

I’m seeing the same thing tons of does a few nice ones and 2 handfuls of 1 to 2 year olds.

When we were in MLDP we shot a lot of does for 4 years straight...think it was somewhere near 100 or 110 total on 600 acres, and had doe tags left over most years. We set out for a couple years and will get back in next year. I think our buck/doe ratio is pretty good but we have a lot of deer both does and bucks. We've added 450 adjoining acres so there's no telling how many doe tags were going to get, the last year we were in we had 38 doe tags. Like you our neighbors on the 6 or 7 ranches around us average less than 10 does total on all the adjoining properties annually. I'd say the average property size of those ranches is 300-400 acres. We also have a lot of HF near our property and our surrounding properties.

Agree with this. But have seen activity as early as late October some years.

We used to own 800 acres in Goldthwaite that I hunted extensively for 10 years, it was always good hunting.

We are just north of you between Mullin and Priddy and based on last year, our rut was about mid month as the primary, then a secondary around the first of December. However, 30 minutes after opening day last year, I scored an eleven point, nice symmetrical buck! Then in the 2nd weekend in December, we saw a very nice 12 point, that ended up making it thru the season, as I saw him again in late January!

From when I hunted that area 20+ years ago late October to middle of November can be great or reall the whole month of November but would definitely be looking at opening 2 weeks if rifle hunter. Pretty much what the others have said. I have watched bucks breed does the last weekend of October and first weekend of rifle season.

Goos luck with the place
