I built a feeder with a similar plate. Make sure it's as close to the barrel as possible as the coons can reach all the way in to that spinner plate. The narrower the gap between the barrel & plate the better. It'll still chink corn a long way.

good looking feeders but I agree, close up that gap between the plate and bottom of barrel ... looks like a paradise for squirrels, smaller coons and long armed big coons

I'll post more pics after I've painted...I don't have the bolts all the way tight, I just put them together to take a pic before I broke them down for painting. The gap should only be about 2" when the bolts are tight.

They are 85 gallon drums so no they are more like 600lb feeders.

They'll hold 550 lbs of corn max depending on funnel angle

My bad, thought they were just the 55 gallon drums.

up might even go a bit smaller if possible, squirrels got into my SIL stand & fill with 2x4 welded wire around the bottom (welded onto the legs) and ate the wires going to the motor (only about 1" gap between tubing & motor).

We don't have very many squirrels on our place. In 7 years I can probably count on one hand the number I've seen on camera or sitting in the stand. I have a piece of 3/4" tubing from behind the solar panel plate going into the back of the control unit so no wires will be exposed at all. I'll take some more pictures after they're painted to show more detail.

LOL, I was making reference to the squirrels getting into very small places, not so much about the wires (they ate the wires on my SIL that has the motor mounted behind the 2x4 welded wire) but they were able to get in thru the welded wire. I see you have a control box where the wires shouldn't be an issue. Good looking set up either way, my only concern was the distance between the plate and bottom of barrel...

Nice work on the feeders and very nice lawn maintenance. Wifeypoo would approve.

Here are the 99% finished products. Only thing left to do is attach the two springs on each side that hold the lids on. The lower plate is just under 2” on the green one and just over 2” on the tan one.

Looks great, but that gap is still too wide. On the Buccee's feeders the gap is about 1". Nice work building those yourself!

Look very good but have to agree on the gap being too wide.

Not to be negative, but I'm not sure how long that solar panel will last. I also agree on the gap -------- I"d sell that one to your brother-in-law and take a second shot at it.

Have you filled these up with corn to see what they hold? Do have a funnel inside?
