FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott visited Fort Worth Tuesday to announce a legislative plan that would freeze property tax rates for any city that tries to defund police.

The governor made his announcement from Fort Worth because he said Fort Worth “is doing it right.”

the left is broke , The Boss closed all the back doors. Defunding is money laudering to their causes. Its the same way they were setting caliphony on fire and collecting the disaster relief. If I was china I would support this , it gets people out of areas that they have already paid for. freeze their butts

Good. There should be some kind of consequences for the douchebags making these decisions. I hope he takes it even further and maybe the trend will be stopped in Texas.

Same bunch of idiots that voted to become sanctuary cities and break laws. It's painfully obvious they will put their ideology above the law.

And your life, liberty, happiness, property rights, and anything else you have that they can use to advance their agenda.

Seems like a tax refund is in order.

One shot is all it should take.

So, freezing tax rates is now a form of punishment? Now an incentive might be created to defund PD's to get that relief?

Abbott agrees that putting Ft. Worth SWAT on a $1.5M chopping block is part of "doing it right"? How the F does he know that? Who polishes his crystal ball?

What if PD budget reductions in a local, low crime area, might actually be justified? What is the true definition of "defund"? Is local control, right or wrong, going completely out the window? Should we just forget about city councils, school boards, commissioners courts, etc. and lay back while all decisions originate from Austin?

Makes a lot of sense if I don't think about it....

Last time I checked, there are two levers to property tax -- the rate and the appraisal. Doesn't seem like much of a punishment, and TOM-M got it right that this could be viewed as an "incentive" for the naive that think it will keep property taxes down.

I agree with TOM-M and TLew; freezing the rates doesn't do squat when the appraisal districts can raise your property value 10% every year. Who needs a .5% raise in the rate when they can get a 10% raise in your value. If he wants to punish them, call a special session and pass the appraisal relief ideas that Paul Bettencourt and Dan Patrick have been pushing for the past 15+ years. Dan, Paul and various others keep saying elect me and I'll do it. Make them put their money where their mouths have been for over 10 years.

Thanks,
Rich

Defunding will never fully take over. The majority of the 911 calls are for domestic disturbances.
