I noticed in an Academy ad flyer that arrived yesterday there's a new camo pattern that's now available - Veil Camo. Or maybe it's not really new but only that Academy is now selling it.

Did we really need yet another camo pattern to increase our chances for success? But then, you really can't blame hunting clothing makers from taking the same approach as gun makers. Or maybe that rifle caliber we've been using for years is no longer good enough to harvest deer.

I haven't bought camo in 10 years. I like the light weight Magellan shirts in GW colors. grin

What is camo? lol

Only time I use it is when we are in and out of the brush busting horns together otherwise I wear whatever comes out of my closet or drawer.

Amazes the hell out of me when I see folks wearing a $500 set of camo clothes to go climb up in a $5k corporate blind.
I believe a hell of a lot more in scent control than I do camo.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I have worn regular old army camo to hunt for years. Shot deer and hogs on the ground spot and stalk hunting with it on while wearing a orange vest. As long as it breaks up your outline, but if you move at the wrong time.. the game is over no matter what your wearing.

I usually wear jeans and a dollar two ninety-eight T shirt from the Dollar Store. I save my nice camo gear for dinner at the local watering holes.

I agree I’ve shot deer in pink, purple, blue, you name it and have never felt the need for camo. But I also hunt in box blinds 120-180 yards from feeders. However I think movement cause people to get busted far more than scent does, just my experience though.

We used to have to go our local little high school to sign up to hunt in the park [big thicket],and there would always be guys from Houston and Baytown areas that would come fully camoed and would actually wear their hunter orange, some of the locals would have a good laugh at these guys. Some would even worry about being in the same woods with the chichacos but usually, unless they were lost they wouldn't be out of sight of the road 😄

Don't know where I'm goin but I'm makin good time

No doubt a deer can spot the slightest movement from a long ways off. But, if you get into the habit of making movements very, very slowly you can eliminate them spooking off most of the time....even mature, smart does and bucks. They may bet you into a 10 minute stare-off, but you can win that one most of the time if you stay dead still. You are not going to fool their nose if you have not covered your scent though....EVER.
It may not spook some deer off but I'll assure you it will with a smart old buck if he gets that 'nasty, dangerous, human smell' in those nostrils!

And I don't buy a lot of fancy, expensive cover scents.....I use a lot of watch the woods gives me like different leaves off different brush, and good old fashioned cow chit!
Hell, if I'm hunting cedar (yes, I know it is really junipers), I don't buy any cover scents or even scentless soap. I simply find a couple cedar branches and rub my clothes with it and I have instant cover.
And, hopefully there is some good, fresh cow patties laying around that I can step in before walking in to my stand!

Use nature cover scent for the matching area, rub junipers, pine needles, honeysuckle etc etc. In one of bow set up locations in junipers for warm bow season I will boil a pot of juniper clippings and put in a hand spray bottle for those hot days needing a little extra spritz. Scent is your worst enemy to the WT, hunt the wind, do not try to cheat it, conceal movement and then you can get away without all the fancy latest camo clothing.

Yes, I admit when I hunt from a box blind if it is really cold, I wearing camo coveralls, coat etc because that is what my heavy weight gear is but even then they usually come off to my shorts and t shirt underneath with a light of Lil Buddy. Heck if I'm gonna sit in a nice box blind then I'm going to be comfy in a nice swivel rocking chair with window seal shoot bag, snacks and drinks... can do that all day long...

But I prefer a climbing stand, ladder stand, natural brush blind depending on hunting terrain location

Hunting in a deer blind requires you have pants on because it can get cold sitting in the shade when its 30 degrees. The pattern and color only matters when the deer can see through the plywood. For these reasons I wear my blue jeans and if cold enough my camo coveralls to keep warm.
Hunting in a tree climber I like to wear my kaki grass or dark green schmidt work pants from TSC. Super comfortable with deep pockets and they have the blue jean gruff/tuff to allow walking through the thick.but limber enough to run.
The academy Magellan camo long sleeve shirts are super comfortable and hold off the mosquito somewhat.
