Was referred to them with last year's buck - he isn't particularly special, other than being the first I had taken from a new property. Dropped off in December, said June/July. Called in late June, said mid-July. Called multiple times after July 15th with no return calls. Finally spoke with them last week and was told to give them a few minutes while they checked status and I would receive a call right back. Now 4 days later, have called back and texted, nothing.

Has anyone here got any experience with them? I am not trying to rush them and understand if it is not ready, but the silence concerns me - especially when I was told someone would call me RIGHT back. The good news is I haven't paid anything yet, but dangit, I want my deer back.

Know the feeling and I'm sorry you're having to go through the hassle.

Seems like SOP for about 90% of taxidermists. Almost all other forms of business would go bankrupt with this lame attitude.

I let a buddy take the first good buck off my new place. Same thing with a local taxidermist on just a simple euro. I had to remind them to pick it up at the processor months later and then they did the ol' "The other girl's not in and she knows," for months. He finally received it a few days ago. I'll never darken the door of that taxidermist ever again. realmad

Can’t believe they didn’t collect a deposit for the form when it was dropped off.

Yes, surprised me a bit as well, but he picked it up from processor and I've only spoken with him on the phone. Seems nice enough when I actually get him on the phone, but like I said, the lack of return call when he said he would call "right back" kind of concerns me - like he can't find it for some reason. Oh well, will keep trying...

I have been burned by Taxidermist’s before. I would cut the guy a little slack with the whole COVID situation. But in the future I would use a well established taxidermist with a great reputation. It’s not going to be cheap but it will give you peace of mind. I can’t believe he did didn’t collect a deposit. That is very odd.

Which Lone Star Taxidermy? I know of at least 3...Texas City..Brownwood...etc The one in TC has been in business a very long time and is a well established taxidermy business with a great reputation.
