Reading an article about Canada borders being shut down this year and how it will affect the migration.

Some hunters are worried about the effect diminished hunting in Canada will have on duck migration habits. Some reportedly believe that reduced hunting pressure in Manitoba and Saskatchewan may cause the ducks to linger in those areas longer. Others, however, are apparently more optimistic and believe that the ducks coming to the United States won’t be used to avoiding hunters and will be easier to target.

What are your thoughts?

I would lean to the optimistic side. Waterfowl are going to migrate pressure or not. How many ducks and geese are killed in Canada through outfitters and traveling hunters each season? At least the same and likely more than what is normally killed in a typical U.S. State popular for waterfowl hunting. That number will be severely reduced in Canada this season with the border closed and even Canada locals traveling less. Just guessing maybe an extra 100,000 or three Waterfowl flying south over the border over what normally would make it that far. "Easier to target" though will not matter by the time they get to us down south.

It's estimated that U.S. hunters kill 250k-500k birds a year in Canada.

So there's 2 stand points i see.

If we have a warm winter and the food in Canada doesn't get covered up, then for the 2021 breeding season should have good numbers since birds won't push south very hard. That might allow for better numbers in general for the next few years.

Say it gets really cold up north though, then us in Texas might have some good hunts this year with more birds being able to migrate since they didn't get shot in Canada.

I think I'd prefer a grizzly bites him in his and a goose eats him. Much slower.

I vote cold winter in Canada and big birds in Texas.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Lol, good point...

I don’t think pressure pushes birds south, all about weather

What are your thoughts?

Agree with both views, but to such a small degree its not material.
