The other day the youngest grandson (17) was here. He had heard me mention the hunting forum many times and info gained from it. He ridiculed it, which got me a bit more than irritated. Well, having read the latest info given to copperhead on his bypass surgery, I am reminded one more time how much available knowledge is here. I told the grandson and his parents that just about any question you need info on is here - doctors, lawyers, farmers, ranchers, Law enforcement, welders, auto mechanics, jet pilots, car sales, boat sales. And the info available has mostly been gained from life and job experience. We may be short a proctologist or two, but this place is well represented.

Still, however, have not reached a consensus on best trucks or chainsaws.

That grandson is a couch potato that quits any endeavor as soon as it gets tough. The boy couldn’t change a spark plug and I’m not altogether sure he could point it out on a lawn mower. But he knows soooooo much, he thinks.

That sums up the current state of the country.

I resemble a proctologist every once in a while, or at least sound like one most times roflmao

Not uncommon these days (or any day or period) for a teenager to think they know everything and what’s best. Good luck with your grandson!

I think this thread should be more about how valuable a resource this forum is and less about the Grandson. No offense intended, but the THF is just so great i look for every chance to applaud it. Im about to load up and drive a few hours across the State(going by 603) so I may chime in later on how highly I think of the THF.

It is a great source of info and an example of how social media can be used for good. Real good sometimes!

Recent example was my giant tire disposal quandary. Solved for the problem in less than a day. Saved a buddy of mine $3400. Who in turn donated a crew of men and equipment to my charity to work free of charge for 2 days fixing drainage problems. up

freerange, you are welcome to visit if it isn’t too far out of your way.

As for grandson/Forum, they sort of run together as I outlined. His ridicule caused me to re-examine and reaffirm just how useful the forum is. Wouldn’t have had one without the other.

Just read the first post in this thread to my 16 year old son. He plays HS football and baseball and is more dedicated to that, his fitness and his grades than I EVER was. He can change a spark plugs and doesn't complain when he and i take on house projects or change oil on his car. He may not like it... but he does it because I say we're taking on the project.

Any soft 17 year old? ... I look directly at the parents. Does the dad mow his grass? Does he get his hands dirty?

There is hope for your grandson, 603country. Hopefully you guys can find some common ground and can connect. You'll be so glad you did. These soft kids need real men with beat up hands, worn tools and patience as role models. I feel bad for boys with no old school males around leading by example.

Man, I don't look forward to the (possible, but probably "probable") attitude of teenagers when my beautiful grandchildren get that age. Right now they adore their Grampy and I especially need that validation. (Maybe I'm one of those Shrink studies.)

I asked about a road bed running through my ranch and within 15 minutes stx had a link to a 1936 map at the Texas land office showing the original 83 going through my place. Incredible. Tons of other things figured out or at least a probably theory presented with the help I've found on here. It's my only social media, and I know my grown kids think it strange how often I mention this place...but I don't give a hoot!

The grandson’s dad and that entire side of the family are couch potatoes or head cases. They fear guns to the point that they will rarely touch one. The dad, to my knowledge, has never mowed a yard or worked on a car. Never played an organized sport. His wife, my youngest daughter, has to be the fixer for what’s not working.

The other day the daughter asked me if I looked down on her husband. I lied and said “no”. He and I have very little in common. He still watches the NFL and the kneeling, knowing full well how I feel about it. He has issues. The SiL and his brother were regularly beaten by their father. Because of that, he won’t discipline the kids. And here we are...

They are ‘Participation trophy’ people, with the exception of my daughter.

They bought a vacation home in New Mexico (the SiL is well paid), and I have been asked to go up there with them soon, take my tools, and fix stuff. I’ll do it, for the daughter.

^^^I always like it when I align with something Creekrunner says. He posts too much to have him against you. This is also my only social media and I am questioned about how much time I spend on here. I am also ripe for a shrink study as evidence by the fact that I would like to be the one running the study. I have no expertise in "Shrinking" but i am fascinated by it and its one of the reasons I enjoy the forum and trying to "figure out" people I havent even met.
603, Im going to take you up on that some day, but as usual im in a rush. "Life SHOULD be too short" to not stop and visit 603.

I think each generation gets better in their own way. I didn't stay down on the farm and neither will they. They can't. There are not enough farms avaible.

It is a great place with loads of valuable information. This morning I was cleaning out the kids clogged drains up-stairs and just searched for that good post a while back with lots of info. I was also telling the wife how once again THF came through!

I use these forums more as a place to sanity check where people stand on what I consider the more newsworthy topics and to identify and check on current trends.

YouTube has become my "go to" place for more specific answers once I know what I don't know. You can generally tell within 30 seconds if someone in a video is truly "in the know" about a given topic. No distractions from the groupies is a plus with YouTube as well. Maybe that's why some of those who view themselves as owners of the truth seem to hate YouTube so much.

This is the internet man! Everyone is doing great and everyone's son-in-laws are best buds and perfect! (I have three, and I have to be honest, I don't like any one of them very much. They are ranked 1,2, and 3, but 2 and 3 change quite a bit. grin On the plus-side, I like them better'n my daughter-in-law. laugh "Grumpy Grampy" - that'd be me.

But the points were valid - and therefore valuable. grin
