I just got one of the new Burris Fullfield IV scopes and unlike the FF II and III which were mfg in the Philippines this scope is mfg in CHINA and I don't knowingly buy ANYTHING mfg in COMMUNIST CHINA !!! It's a good looking scope, but I simply can't bring myself to trust a Chinese mfg optic.

Well, that sucks. I’ve been happy w/my FF II. I won’t buy a chinese scope either.

Bill I’m with you. I don’t always succeed but I try very hard to not buy Made in China. The Full Field has always been a good scope and I’ve recommended it many times to buyers on a budget.

It's become almost impossible to buy anything not made in China.

Had me concerned, so I checked the Burris 2-7x32 pistol scope I just bought. Made in the Philippines.

I dont think there is any way to fully avoid it, but here are definetely some categories where it is pretty easy to find an alternative. Optics is one. Like a holosun? Buy a Trijicon. Like a burris? Buy a Leupold. will ti cost you more? absolutely. but the "how cheap can I possibly get something that fits my needs" mentality is exactly how we ended up in this situation with China in the first place

Not true, especially in the gun world. One can always vote everyday with their feet and wallets. When it comes to any gun stuff, I give high preference based on country of origin. I too avoid chi-com stuff as much as possible. Their is an actual difference between all these foreign nations in terms of quality.

I wasn't specifically talking about gun stuff but I understand your point. Understood. It is true that within the gun world it's relatively easy to avoid chinese products. But even in my broader, personal lift I've decided some years ago to attempt to live what I preach. I highly dislike shotty quality, communist/marixist/socialist and wasting money. So I just try my best to buy USA first and China last. Honestly, this is the biggest issue for us regarding asian food products. Chinese food products are consistently poorer quality in general and constant food recalls. I tried them as Korean made alternatives but no more. I don't trust the chi-com government thugs who's each main concern is to maintain power.

Unfortunately, the optics world has discovered that they can engineer optics, send the specs to China, and come out with a very good set of optics at a much cheaper price. It isn't the wave of the future, it is the reality of today.
You did what?

Unfortunately, the optics world has discovered that they can engineer optics, send the specs to China, and come out with a very good set of optics at a much cheaper price. It isn't the wave of the future, it is the reality of today. I'd question the definition of "very good." None the less, the average consumer is getting exactly what they deserve here. These companies have to turn a profit, and the market is full of uneducated consumers who won't take the time to really understand what makes an optic good, and what features really matter. They holler about made in China, yet are unwilling to invest the money up front to get a quality optic that will perform. As far as Burris is concerned.... they do make a mostly USA scope. It's the XTR line, and it's actually a pretty good scope too. I bet they don't sell nearly as many of those as they do the crappy Chinese-made units. So don't blame them, they're just doing what the consumer is asking them to do.

But it is possible. Sometimes you have to put in a little bit of effort and research, and sometimes you have to put in a [censored] ton of effort and research to not buy from China. It does irk me when a company that is known for manufacture in the US or phillipines or whatever, like Burris, suddenly switches. I have two Burris scopes, not made in China, and I would not have thought twice about buying a fullfield again...until now.

they're just doing what the consumer is asking them to do Correct, Burris is not the bad guy here. The masses of American consumers want cheap stuff, so companies provide it. The downside is that enthusiasts like most of us here are now gun shy of Burris. Yes they make some lines in the US still but do you think most are going to research that before buying? It is now known to avoid Burris and their Chinese junk.

Americans want cheap stuff because companies offshored all the manufacturing jobs and destroyed the middle class and that is all many can afford. The mid priced stuff was what the middle class bought
