Not making cookies with it, are ya?
DE is used for many different things. It was a base for FCCU catalysts back in the day, and maybe still is. At home we used it in the pool filter. Many many uses...

We bought some supposedly "food grade" DE for flees on the dogs and cat. We put some in a salt shaker and sprinkled it on the top of their neck and rubbed it in. After a few days no more flees.
I've read that some people actually eat it, though I forgot what for.

Might want to watch which way the wind is blowing, but it's good stuff for the pool filter. I've heard of putting it around the edge outside of your house to keep spiders out... supposed to get into their lungs or something when they walk through it

We use it around the RV when we are hooked up to keep ants and spiders out. Safe for the dog, and no chemical smell

Had to look it up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_earthDiatomaceous earth ( /ˌdaɪ.ətəˌmeɪʃəs ˈɜːrθ/, DE), diatomite or kieselgur/kieselguhr is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. It has a particle size ranging from less than 3 μm to more than 1 mm, but typically 10 to 200 μm. Depending on the granularity, this powder can have an abrasive feel, similar to pumice powder, and has a low density as a result of its high porosity. The typical chemical composition of oven-dried diatomaceous earth is 80–90% silica, with 2–4% alumina (attributed mostly to clay minerals) and 0.5–2% iron oxide.[1] Diatomaceous earth consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled protist. It is used as a filtration aid, mild abrasive in products including metal polishes and toothpaste, mechanical insecticide, absorbent for liquids, matting agent for coatings, reinforcing filler in plastics and rubber, anti-block in plastic films, porous support for chemical catalysts, cat litter, activator in blood clotting studies, a stabilizing component of dynamite, a thermal insulator, and a soil for potted plants and trees like bonsai.[2][3] Usage Explosives In 1866, Alfred Nobel discovered that nitroglycerin could be made much more stable if absorbed in diatomite. This allows much safer transport and handling than nitroglycerin in its raw form. He patented this mixture as dynamite in 1867; the mixture is also called guhr dynamite.[14]

Pool filter DE is very different from regular DE. My vet said it can be helpful with a digestive system for dogs, but I never checked it out. DE dust is great to control pests, especially roaches. If @ Dragonuv sees this post he can chime in as he is the pest expert here.
