At least five horses have been killed around Pearland, Texas since late May — but it’s the way they’re being killed and what’s being done to their carcasses that’s particularly disturbing to locals. Pearland police made their first discovery June 10. Responding to an animal cruelty call along the 14000 block of Kirby Drive, they found a horse, dead and butchered. Different cultures, different views, same need...food.
I can't imagine eating horse, much less anything else consumed in the Far East.
Chicken and beef is about it for me, and bison on occasion.
Addendum: I guess I'd eat other game meats, but probably not until I move up north in a few years.

End of WW1 we turned several thousands of our cavalry horse lose in France. Time were really tuff and People eat well after the war. I would bet people are eating this horse meat also.

If it's like Florida people from almost every country south of the Mexican border in the Americas eat horse. Congress has prevented the FDA from inspecting horse slaughter, so there is no legal availability of horse meat in the US, so a black market has emerged. I suspect that that's whats happening, if they're going to break the law by slaughtering and selling horse meat, they might as well steal the horse.

I have a buddy that has been a chef in Spain for about 30 years now. He tells me horse meat steaks are common over there. He said it's delicious.
