Two things I enjoy doing every year - Buying a new hunting license soon after they go on sale and swinging by the Sporting Goods counter at Walmart the night before Opening Day to see the long line of those who didn't.

I have been ordering my on-line now for the last 8 yrs or so. That way I can buy Big Time Texas hunts and my license at the same time. I get my new license in the mail within a couple of days.

I probably should do that. But I like to go to the counter and ask for my Lifetime Combo renewal tags.
I used to enjoy the confused looks but the local Academy has a couple people that know what to do and they will make it a learning moment for those that don't. .

Yep, specially when you add the annual public lands permit and duck stamp to the mix.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

And the looks on the faces of other people when they hear tags and a Duck Stamp will be $28.00

I would get my license online if they did not charge a $5 administration fee. I'm passing a Walmart or Academy at least once a week so it's not an inconvenience to get it in person.

Mine is 100% convience. 18 miles to closest Walmart and 55 miles to closest Academy. Problem is in these small town local Walmart is finding a warm body to get you a license. Then finding someone who can actually know how to get the correct info on the tag. I would spend more in fuel than the $5 most of the time running around to find a place that actually sells licenses. So online is easier for me since 100% of my info is already then after I add in my SS#. All I do is add in the credit card info and then hit enter. Takes all of 2-3 minutes for just my license..longer if I am doing the Big Time hunts.

Last year Academy had a special where if you bought one of the cheap Mossberg rifles/shotguns, you got a free Super Combo. I didnt end up doing that, but it seemed like a good opportunity for a beater/loaner gun & I was hoping they'd do it again this year.

I bit on that offer a couple years ago when they offered a Savage XP II for a special price and the free Super Combo License. I was looking for a rifle that I could leave in the truck and not worry too much about someone breaking in and stealing it. The funny thing is I've killed enough hogs with it since that now I would hate to see it go missing.

That's probably the one I was thinking of. I was thinking it was a Savage or Mossberg. Or maybe they've done it a few years in a row with different manufacturers. Too bad they're skipping this year.

Given all the ongoing panic buying, I'm not sure Academy would have enough fish hooks to include them in such a deal.
