How are things looking for my fellow Young county deer hunters? Any encouraging pics out there, how is the foliage looking? I hope to go out next month for first time in several. Post any pics you wish to...

Probably depends on where in the county you are - Foliage dry, brown & crispy, oaks dropping leaves from lack of rain & heat, one spark away from wildfire.
Has been, hot, very hot, dang hot last few weeks.

Plenty deer coming to protein & water, a few coming to corn. Dove okay around water near feed source, Turkey poults having a very rough year.

Got some pretty nice bucks on camera this past couple of months unfortunately we just put the place up for sale and it won't last long. FYI I'm in-between Olney and Jean south of hwy.114 3 miles.

Will be my first year to hunt Young County. I will be watching this thread but as far as I can tell by the pics I'm getting I have a hog problem and not too many pics of deer at the feeder. However I do see them every time I am out there so hope things take shape come fall.

You're going to have one until you cattle panel your feeders. It's the only way to keep the roaches away.

Dq do you say turkey poults are having a bad year due to lack of rain?

Gave up the leases S & W of Graham 2 years ago, I try my hardest to avoid the central west & south west part of the county.

12 - 16 16' x 34" hog panels arranged in a circle or close to, T posts every 8' or the pigs will keep the deer run off.

Yup afraid so. I will make that investment after I see how this first year on the lease goes

Didn't really hunt much, mostly grazing, tired of the constant year around trespassing, hunting / shooting without LO consent, minor theft, dumping, strange goings on - general shenanigans that part of the county is infamous for.

We own in the NW part of the county just east of the river. Lots and lots of pigs near the feeders. Lots of dove picking up. Deer are sporadic around the feeders right now. Hot as Hell's front porch and has been for several weeks so activity is mostly at night. Not seeing many horns right now where we are but we're all cover sandwiched between neighboring cropland. Relatively small piece of property. Dry. Dry. Dry. Next month will be more informative for us.

No. It’s not worth the drive.

Like any county it depends on what part of the county you're talking about, then the general area, then specific properties.

We have more dove now than I've seen in the previous 3 years.

If the season was open this morning would've been easy to get your limit in an hour or two.

Hello,

Any recommendations for hog removal? We've been in the county for years, north of Loving and the hogs are just out of hand. Would like it to be done for free/low cost but understand the trapping market is down right now.

As far as the deer go, we have seen a lot of movement in the mornings. Tons of doe as usual.

5 gallon bucket plumb full of decent sized flint rocks along with 10 lbs of tannerite in it...……..feed heavily around the sides of it and let one shot fiy!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Would rather not have pig guts all over the pasture leading to more hogs/varmits rooting around so i will pass on this one.

The very best you can do is have feed pens around every feeder, built as described earlier in the thread.
The bigger, the better.

If you really want people on your property trapping, check with the pig buyer in Jermyn he may know of some reputable trappers.

I'll be out later this week, any updates on deer sightings, pics? How are the dove flying? Wet or dry out there?
