I like all kinds of greens and decided to experiment with canned greens. I just opened this can -

...and we both agree that they are very good right outta the can. I didn’t add a thing and they’re as good as my best batch of fresh greens. I’ll add a dash of Tabasco vinegar once they’re on my plate beside my scratch Mac n cheese and fried pork chops y’all.

Love greens. No longer grow them. Might try a can with scratch cornbread.

The dirt or coffee grinds on the can worry me.

2 yrs back, I planted a fall deer food plot with some 'lucky 7' bagged plot seed back in the woods at my place - seems the turnips in there (some kind of purpletop) did real well, and the deer weren't really touching the plot.
One day momma wanted to make soup -had all ingredients but the greens, so kiddo went back there and 'harvested' some -
turned out a great pot of soup (better than the store-bought greens), so we kept harvesting all thru fall/winter/spring till summer heat finally burned the patch out.
Daughter also harvested some of the monster turnips - and cooked them up like mashed taters - butter/salt/pepper; tasted great; so momma started putting chunks into the soup too, and we'd often make as side-dish as mash-taters.
We ate off that patch throughout the whole cool season, till summer burned them up.
Making my mouth water right now remembering them - I think I'm gonna find out what kind they put in the bag, and plant a patch there again end of this month!

I love greens and those are the best canned greens. I found a recipe for drunken collards, MAN!!! are they good, My family who don't like collards ate them
Drunken Collard Greens
Drunken Collard Greens, flavored with bourbon and bacon, is a southern side dish like no other. As much as I love traditional collard greens, adding a splash of bourbon really makes a fantastic pot of collards. The smooth, sweet flavor of bourbon really complements the flavor of the greens.

Keywordbourbon collard greens
Prep Time10 minutes

Calories153kcal
Ingredients
2 bunches fresh collard greens
1 tablespoon butter
4 slices thick-cut bacon, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1 medium sweet onion, diced
4 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup bourbon
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
Rinse collard greens well. Remove stem and thick part of the rib from each leaf and discard. Stack about 8 leaves on top of each other, roll up like a cigar and cut into 1/2-inch ribbons. Repeat with remaining leaves.
Add butter, bacon and onion to a large Dutch oven. Cook until the bacon is crisp and the onion is tender.
Add remaining ingredients except collard greens to the Dutch oven. Bring to a boil.
Add collard greens and stir until the collard greens are mostly wilted. Reduce heat, cover and cook for about 1 1/2 hours.

Yeah, missed that. After the surprise of them tasting so good, I wanted a pic. Fished it out of the trash to get the pic...

My local Walmart has them but they’re currently out of stock. Try Walmart online, these greens are worth tracking down.
