What is your favorite old Iconic place that you still like going to?

Daughter heads back to college in California next Sunday, she wanted the wife and I to go to Kellers Drive Inn and get some burgers, fried onion rings and tater tots, then go to White Rock lake where her boyfriend proposed to her a couple of weeks ago, that is there two favorite places.

Any hoot its has been forever since I have been to Kellers, what I remember about it most was a good burger, tater tots and cold cheap beer.

Well the daughter ordered for me while I was out taking pictures. The Hamburger was okay good but really cannot judge it because she had them put that house dressing on it which drowns out the flavor of the meat, Onion Rings were meh, tater tots were okay. I will go back just to try a burger with everything on it and mustard, none of that house dressing crap.

Had a great time, just smiled and said the food was great. I am going to miss my spunky little girl.

For the first 4-6 weeks it will be online only, they will re-evaluate and make a decision then.

Since we are still paying for her apartment, there is an ocean with a nice beach close by and her car is there, my little beach bum loves us but is ready to go back up

Bee Hive Bar and Steakhouse in Albany. Then spend the night at the old Bee Hive Motel.

I have a number of favorites in San Antonio but I'm so old most are either gone or out of range now.

  • Original A&W Hamburger was on Nogalitos
  • Tommy's (for all the fish you can eat) on Nogalitos near stock yards
  • Bun 'n' Barrel
  • Pig Stand
  • Lone Star Hall of Horns (Moved?)
  • Old San Francisco Steak House
  • Reed's Red Derby
  • The Village Inn (Strip mall there now)
  • Bud Jones (Went to h3ll when Bud died)
  • Earl Abels (don't know status)

...I could go on & they all were iconic at one time or another, at least to me & the buddies I hung around with.

Have eaten at Mia's on Lemmon in Dallas for many years.
Joe T's and Angelo's in Fort Worth although both have gone downhill over the years.

Most are gone. 'Miss Earl Abel's terribly.

La Fogota is an icon and is still there, and good.

Liberty Bar could be considered an icon now, even though they have moved from original location.

There is an undercurrent of old San Antonio that knows the history and, what's real. It crosses all racial lines, and, what has always made me so proud of this city.

The Original Lowake Steakhouse that had the cottonfield airstrip. Used to fly down there for dinner, sadly it burned in the early 1970's.

Hunted the Lambshead ( Matthew's Ranch) for six years and all anybody had to say on Friday was let's go to the Bee Hive and we were gone. LOL

Been to all those you listed for Corpus, Rockport, Robstown and Riviera. Price's Chef had great burgers and homemade ice cream. Frank's Spaghetti House was awesome. I'd add the original Red Barn out near Mathis as well.

The Original on Camp Bowie.

Always have the Roosevelt Special.

And I'll still go to Joe T's when the weather is good....like the atmosphere and the food is ok....but I miss the swimming pool and walking through the kitchen to get outside....

Is the swimming pool gone? That used to be my favorite. A nice night dining by the pool and you would think you were in Mexico.
