Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia in San Antonio Snapka's Drive Inn in Corpus Chrisit Franks Spaghetti House in Corpus Christi Price's Chef in Corpus Christi Joe Cotton's BBQ in Robstown Howards BBQ & Catering in Corpus Christi Kings Inn in Riviera Charlotte Plummer in Rockport Zentner's Daughter Steak House in San Angelo (close now I think) Jacala Mexican Restaurant in San Antonio OST in Bandera Bill & Rosa's KK Steakhouse & Saloon in D'Hanis Hermann Sons Steak House in Hondo Sammy's Restaurant in Castroville Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar in Gruene Max's Cafe in Tilden
Been to all those you listed for Corpus, Rockport, Robstown and Riviera. Price's Chef had great burgers and homemade ice cream. Frank's Spaghetti House was awesome. I'd add the original Red Barn out near Mathis as well. Sadly, the original Cottens burned down right when I moved down here. I've eaten at the spin offs, but wasn't overly impressed. Prices Chef was good, but it needs a remodel. When we are there, the ceiling tiles were all wet with mildew on them. I like Railroad in Odem over Kings Inn, but that's mainly because I can almost see it from my back porch. Food is pretty much the same. Charlotte Plummers has always been great. What is the Red Barn?

Yeah I had heard that Joe Cottens had burned down. The original was really good BBQ. I left off several really good ones from back in the 80's in the CC area...like Big Fisherman in Rockport(I think it burned down), Red Barn was a steakhouse on the west of side of IH 37 below Mathis surrounded by farmland and finally the old Running Bear drive in on Hwy 35 out past Lamar had one of the best hamburger and CFS back then. I left off one on my original list that had the best steak I ever ate and that was the old original Lone Star Steakhouse in Waco on Bellmead Drive back in 1979. They aged all their beef and cut your steak when you ordered it. They laughed at you if you asked for steaksauce. IIRC they only had 7 items on the menu...their CFS was chicken fried sirloin and was huge. You order either a small, medium or large size steak that was cooked to your order. I asked the first time how large was the "large sirloin steak"..the owner looked at me and said you can handle it.... I was as large as the plate it was served on. A friend ordered a large T-bone...it was 24 oz or more and the bone looked like a crutch. They always had a waiting list and the owners told us that people drove from Houston and other places just to eat a steak there.

Still eat at Storms when we go to my uncles place in Adamsville Blue Bonnet had the best pies, I would call ahead and reserve a piece and a whole apricot pie. Wife was really poed when we drove up and it was closed. I had a heart valve replaced at S&W in 2001, when got out went to eat there and get my pie wearing pjs, robe, and house shoes. Have a friend that has a place between Adamsville and Lometa.

When I was in college my roommate was a bartender at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse and dated one of the gals that used the red velvet swing to ring the bells on the ceiling. Went by there a few years ago and was kinda sad to see it gone....

Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy. Supposedly where Hemingway was asked how he liked a "Bellini" (pink, fizzy drink) and he, supposedly, replied that Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby) would probably like it. (A dig on Fitzgerald's...masculinity.)

Wurstfest Little Red Barn in SA Barn Door in SA Ma Shortys in Hobson south of Falls City Rays Cafe in Kingsbury (gone gone) Goerkes near Marion - no one knew how get there. All you had to do was follow the tail lights. Gone gone now but GG's in Downton Marion schmek gute, but just not quite the same. Schmitty's and their famous open flames and knives chained to the wall in downtown Lockhart.
I miss all the smell of butter and garlic on those steaks at Zenters Daughter - dang they could cook them good.

Can't count the number of tough steaks I had to buy for customers at The Little Red Barn. 'Don't miss that part.

Brands everywhere, lil cowgirl waitresses, 1,000 steaks a day and salads when you sat down. Never said the steaks were great, but iconic does come to mind.

When Shorty's sold a few years ago it was never the same after he sold it. Cotton Beam, the man who owned and operated Shorty's for 40 yrs just passed away at the end of July.

Elmo's Roadhouse near Tuloso Midway was pretty good. Understand there was a large restaurant near Sonora with a Nascar car in it that was pretty good too.

Blacks BBQ in Lockhart, the Original, excellent Mi Tierra, so many times I don't remember. Daughters like it more so for the hype of what it is. The Mexican food is meh, Not great to me I have had better. Lums- always have liked it. Stopped there last yr and it looked like his young sons were running it? Not great that time but all the other times one of the best. Coopers In Mason- was really good. I haven't been there in a while though. Buddys Drive inn- good stuff for steak fingers. Again haven't been in yrs. LuLus bakery-cin rolls were the bomb other food was meh Dirty's in H town-the best chicken fry ever. Closed down but I was blessed to eat there way before they shutdown.
