I bought one. The Leupold VX5 3-15 with fire dot got me hooked on illuminated dots, but getting that expense past the wife again was doubtful, so I went a bit lower cost. This is for an extra gun I’ve got. Not what you’d call a primary type rifle. Anybody have one of these $300 scopes?

If I get no response, I’ll just use it a while and tell YOU what I think.

Just got the scope. It’s called a Hog Hunter, which I assume means it’s designed for dim light. The exit bell is 56mm and the tube is 30mm. I mounted it to the rifle, and there was plenty of room for that 56mm bell, thanks to the mount. Not too heavy a scope, which is good. Standard duplex type reticle, without BDC, and the illuminated dot (10 levels of brightness) seems great. Glass seems very good. So far, so good. Sight it in tomorrow, and then I need a hog to complete this project.

And, in the process I’ll have to see how good it is in dim light. Sure wish the weather wasn’t so darn hot, even at daylight.

Please post an update when you can. I'm in the same boat. I just got a VX5 3x15 for a 6.5 PRC and am looking for something not quite so expensive for a Sako .308 that I have. The more I look for what I want to put on it the more expensive scopes I end up looking at. I am looking for a cheaper alternative since the Sako will not be my primary rifle but do want something that is decent.

First update - the glass is clear. Certainly a good bit clearer than my Gen 1 Viper PST 4-16. Maybe nearly as good as my Leupold 4.5-14’s, though I won’t go as far as saying it’s in the league of my VX5 3-15.

The illuminated dot - on the VX5 Firedot, I don’t remember seeing a dot when the firedot was not on (I’ll have to check that). On this scope, when the dot isn’t lit up, I can see a tiny black dot where the illuminated dot would be. That isn’t a problem for me. The black dot will mostly or almost cover my 100 yard target circles, which are 5/8 OD, to give you an idea how big the black dot is.

This scope looks to be just what I was looking for. Till recently I didn’t even know that Vortex and Burris had something patterned off the firedot.

Ok, I officially like this scope. Good glass and not too heavy. It is big however and the clicks are a bit mushy, but that is no deal killer. One thing it’ll allow is that once it’s sighted in you can set the turrets to zero on elevation and windage. A fellow can play with other bullets and loads and then come back to zero with your primary load. Nice touch.

More info, from the coyote hunt this morning. The tiny red dot, when at max illumination, is too bright to be useful. At the low end it seems about right.

Compared to the VX5, it does not seem as sharp or bright in really low light. I expect that’s a result of the price difference.

I have one of these on a Savage A17 for coon removal at night and for what they are I’d say they are a pretty decent scope. The thing I like the most for night use is the adjustable brightness dot, it makes a pretty big difference when taking close shots compared to longer shots. I would buy another one if needed so if your in the market for something like these I say go for it 👍

Yep, this scope that I was happy with eventually failed to hold zero. I sent it back and went with Athlon. That said, the scope had just about everything I wanted in a pig hunting scope, and the price was rather low. If I had another rifle needing a scope, I might try another Crossfire II.

I just got a Savage Axis .308 BA. I must say it came with a cheap Weaver 3x9 and I am sure I will change scopes pretty soon but I really don't know what to get.
I hunted N. Carolina back in the 80's and haven't been since. I used a shotgun then....000 Buck !! I won't be using the rifle much. Hogs/Deer etc. 100-150yds max.
No expensive scope, between $200-300 is OK right now. NO BDC stuff. Who knows, I may like that little Weaver. I'm 74. Disabled Marine but still able to get around some!!
Had cataract surgery, right eye 6 weeks ago and the left eye Dec.22d. During my trigger time we had no scopes.. LR and SR peep sights on my handy M-16...but I was a good
shot tho.Might still be w/ new eyes!! I was looking at the Vortex Crossfire 11 3x9x40mm V-Plex Suggestions? I'll check back in later. Back to the Fishing Forum (V-Bottom)
