With TLK's incredible low fence buck pictures, I hesitated to even post this, but I think he's gonna make 12 pts. and he's pretty dang good, I think, for this broken-down ol' ranch. Not a south Texas 12, but I'm a hill country kid anyways. Who knows if I'll even see him once the season opens, but it is encouraging.

cheers Hope you get to see him during the season. A true 6x6 typical is something that I have always wanted to kill. While some ranches have them and they are common, for me they are rare. I would shoot him in a heartbeat here on my place. But I am thinking you may want to put up a sign with directions on that trough....North, South and East arrows only..nothing pointing west... whistle grin

The drought a few years ago was really hard on a lot of the trees up in the Hill Country. Then throw in Oak Wilt and Decline on top of that and there is a lot of dead trees. Also with that trough there I would think animals spent a lot of time loafing there in the shade and caused some erosion of already shallow soil.

That is a beautiful buck - I grew up in Taylor and spent the first half of my life hunting nothing but Hill Country. Cut my teeth there. Would not trade a minute of those times. I spent hour upon hour still hunting deer in the cedars of the Hill Country

To me a trophy is a trophy based on where you are. Some of my favorite bucks I shot would not touch 130 but were trophies at the time for Hill Country. So please do not ever hesitate to post pics of nice deer no matter what the location is.

Judging by the previous owners, prior to spring 2019, and the way the weeds grew around it last year, letting the tank overflow for a looong time is actually a distinct possibility that I hadn't thought of before. Thanks to both of you. The brake on the windmill needs replacing, but it keeps enough in there for the wildlife, with the brake on, that I hesitate to repair it.

I can see repairs on cracks to the storage tank and almost all of the old ones like that leak. Tree roots, drought, freezes all cause stress on those concrete storage tanks. Mine storage tank like that one will not hold water anymore due to all the cracks. If I repair it, it will be with a sprayed in fiberglass liner. If my windmill goes out, I will replace it with solar pump and panels that is advertised here the classifieds by a member out of San Angelo.

I use to run some cattle on a place next to me. The owners lived in the Dominion in SA. The place here was just a weekend place of about 150 acres. Quite a few years ago during the deer season I was checking cows there and I saw a nice Buck and I just saw it for a few seconds and thought it had 10 points. I called up the owner of the property and told him I had seen a 10 point buck there. His wife liked to hunt and the next afternoon they came up. A little while after dark they came to the house and he told me they had taken the buck but it wasn't a 10 point. I told him she must have taken the wrong deer because I knew it had 10 points. I went out to their truck and looked at the Buck and it was a perfect 12 point. I have seen bucks here with more than 12 points but that was the first with a perfect 6 on each side.
